Here we are at the end of October Besties and I can tell you that this month was way Better than last month. I do realize that bar is pretty low. It's time to give an update on October and link up with Sheaffer and Shay and chat all things October. Are you ready? I am.
What We're Eating This Week
We are in the full swing of the hockey season now. Our dinners need to be fast, not too spicy and filled with nutrients. Some nights we are eating before practice early and other nights we are eating after 6pm games.
Monday-Burgers, dogs, chopped salad, McCain Smiles and Alexia sweet potato tots. This is a post-game meal.
Tuesday-Chicken stir fry with brown rice. This is a before practice meal.
Wednesday-Turkey tacos, black beans, broccoli. No hockey tonight.
Thursday-Roasted shrimp, garlic butter rice and veggies. This is a before practice meal.
Friday-Take out on the way home from our game in Baltimore.
What I'm Reminiscing About
I am reminiscing about the same thing every October, and that is Halloween when Hockey Guy was younger. This was the Best costume ever and he wore it so well, especially at Disney.
What I'm Loving
I am really loving all things fall night now. I am loving gluten free pumpkin muffins with white chocolate chips, drinking a lot of pumpkin spice coffee and all the colors of fall.
What We've Been Up To
We have been up to all of the fall things. We have gotten together with friends and enjoyed a bonfire. We kicked off the high school hockey season last weekend with a tie. I have been loving visiting my farm stands both on the weekends and on my way home on Thursday nights.
We also had homecoming and Hockey Guy took his friend again that he has known since kindergarten. They are great friends. No photo of her below, because I need to double check with her mom if I can post her photo. He did humor me with a photo before the pre-party.
I also attended a large staff party for the Senator that I worked for who is retiring. I worked for him when he was up and coming in House leadership and then became part of leadership. It's the end of an era and he is truly one of the Good ones. I promise you that there are some really Good people in elected office. I left that party grateful for that time in my life and career and proud of the work we did to make all of this happen. I was part of a very small staff in the beginning.
What I'm Dreading
I organized my closet this month but there is still so much organizing to do in this house. Hockey Guy and I are cleaning out his clothes that don't fit and that is a chore Besties.
I also need to split some iris plants and hostas outside. I dread the process but I know that come spring, when these are blooming so beautifully I will be happy I put the work in now.
I need to get organized for Halloween next week. I mean I know it is Halloween but I just bought our candy and I need to make a plan.
What I'm Working On
One important thing I am working on, and one that I am not always succeeding on, is getting more sleep. My doctor had a real talk with me this summer about the importance of sleep. I am trying really hard to get Better sleep during the week.
I am also working very hard on setting some boundaries in my life. This part I am succeeding on and that is a Good thing.
I am also trying to get things organized around the house. Do I write this every month? I feel like I do but never really get things organized. I do have a consignment appointment this weekend and that should help lighten the load around here.
What I'm Excited About
Workwise, I am excited about this election cycle coming to and end. While I do love the excitement of election day, it's been a long two years Besties and I am ready to put this one in the books.
I am also excited about all things fall and then heading into Christmas. Running Daddy and I had a conversation a few weeks ago and while we love summer, we believe October, November and December are the Best months...period.
What I'm Watching/Reading
Running Daddy and I watched Hell of a Cruise on Peacock a few weeks ago. It is about the beginning of the pandemic unfolding on cruise ships. It was so fascinating to watch the early days of the pandemic unfolding. If you have Peacock I recommend this one.
We finished watching Southern Charm and that reunion was a little rough. Poor Taylor, she is such a sweet woman and Shep is so not the guy for her. I am not sure Shep is the guy for anyone. Just crossing my fingers that she doesn't go back there.
I also started watching Real Housewives of Salt Lake. I know that everyone is raving about it this season, but I frankly am finding it a little dark.
Speaking of Housewives, what is not disappointing is Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I can't wait for tonight when Kathy Hilton takes off those hotel slippers, steps into her Barbiecore dress and let's Lisa Rinna have it. Unfortunately, I think this may be the last time we see Kathy on this franchise because girlfriend doesn't need this headache. She is a Hilton afterall.
I also really enjoyed all of the Fall into Love movies on Hallmark. Next to the Christmas ones, I love the fall Hallmark movies.
Speaking of Hallmark Christmas movies, they started last weekend and I am loving watching them while Running Daddy and I have coffee in the morning and catching up on my faves. My mom and I watched We Wish You a Married Christmas and we loved it. My mom loved that the story wasn't so perfect. If you are a Hallmarkie, leave your old faves and your new faves in the comments below.
What I'm Listening To
With Bravocon being a few weeks ago, I am listening to all of the Bravo podcasts. I have a new one that I found called Cocktails and Gossip and those ladies seem to get a lot of tea sent to them surrounding the Bravosphere.
I am also a big fan of Rob Lowe's Literally podcast and have mentioned this previously. He recently had a conversation with Drew Barrymore and it was really fascinating and refreshingly honest.
What I'm Wearing
Now that it is cooler, I am back in my Lululemon joggers on the weekends for running errands. They are great for running around town and also for getting coffee. They are so comfortable but also look a little elevated. These make a really Good holiday gift and run true to size.
Friday night we have a tough game just north of Baltimore for Hockey Guy's high school team. We have two other games for Hockey Guy's travel team this weekend.
I also am going to try to do some fall gardening, home organization and food prep for the week. I also desperately need some rest, and I can hopefully sleep in a little bit this weekend.
What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month
We have a hockey trip to Florida and that should be fun. Last year we went to Chicago which we loved, but we are looking forward to seeing what hockey in Florida is like.
I am looking forward to this election cycle being here and gone. It was a lot this time and I am hoping we get some Good elected officials to represent our country, from both parties.
I am looking forward to Thanksgiving and a little golfing trip with my boys. I think I will hit the spa while they hit the links and then meet them on the 19th hole.
I also enjoy my early morning solo Black Friday trips. No craziness, just a coffee, a down vest, some bargains and time for this busy mama to start her Christmas shopping. I have probably been getting up and doing this for about 8 years now and it is my own tradition.

Thanks for joining me today for What's Up Wednesday. I'll see you back here tomorrow for Monthly Musings.
So much goodness in one post my friend! Gluten free pumpkin muffins sound awesone- do you have a recipe or do you buy them somewhere? I love that pic of you and your coffee- you look amazing and your nail color is on point!
ReplyDeleteIt's the gluten free pumpkin bread mix from Trader Joe's that I buy in bulk! I make it into muffins. You are so sweet about that photo. Can't wait for Monthly Musings tomorrow.
DeleteHell of a Cruise sounds interesting. On the last few cruises we've been on it's been interesting to hear how things were for those folks during the Cruise Q&As. Southern Charm is so good. My favorite trash TV.
ReplyDeleteRight there with you on Southern Charm! Hell of a Cruise is really Good. If you have Peacock you should check it out.
DeleteI try to remind my boys of that too-- that there are many people in office who are good and trying to do good. I was actually struck by that thought listening to a book by Robe Lowe when he talked about meeting a lot of them while on the West Wing; even though we may complain about the system as a whole more often than not. I think your son is the cutest Woody doll I've ever seen and he looks so nice all dressed up for his homecoming (my son was home sick that week and missed his; luckily he wasn't heartbroken over it!).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet comments on Hockey Guy. He was the cutest Woody even now as a high schooler he does like to get dressed up.
DeleteOkay, I had other things to comment on but now I need to share my favourite Hallmark movies. Given that we've only been watching for two years, take that into account too! However, I'm so glad we've seen Project Christmas Wish and On The 12th Date Of Christmas twice.
ReplyDeleteOh those are two Good Hallmark movies. There are so many Good ones and I love to watch the older ones in the morning with coffee before work. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment Natasha.
