What's Up Wednesday

I am jumping into my first What's Up Wednesday and linking with Mel, Shaeffer and Shay.  Let's do this!

What we are eating this week

Well,  I am currently traveling for business so I was lucky to have dinner at my sweet co-workers house outside of Minneapolis Monday night.  She has an adorable recently renovated house and had a small group of us over for dinner and fun conversation. She is the Best. Tuesday night I had some takeout in my hotel room from City Works and the grilled salmon was a great choice.  I did leave food for Running Daddy and  the Sweet Boy but since the Sweet Boy has been sick for several days, I am not sure how much of it was eaten.  It's OK, it's only things like tortellini that can be cooked at another time.

When I get home I think I will do something easy like pesto pasta tonight but then probably do something like pork Milanese on Thursday night.  Friday is always pizza night in our house.

What I am Reminiscing About

With lacrosse evaluations last weekend for the Sweet Boy, I am reminiscing about what a great group of boys and a fun group of parents we had on our team last year---especially the Moms! Some of these ladies I had never met or didn't really know that well have become some of my biggest sources of Joy over the last year. Most of their boys are moving up to the next level, so I am hoping that we have a good team this year.  Not sure we can match the magic of 2016, but that is OK.

What  I am Loving

I am totally loving this Merona Bomber Jacket from Target and purchased it in navy this evening.

I am also loving the essential oils diffuser that Running Daddy got me for Valentine's day.  It is something that I am interested in but would never have purchased myself.  He is such a thoughtful gift giver.  With the Sweet Boy being sick I was running some oils all weekend.  In addition, the Sweet Boy had a big test last week, so I ran the Pay Attention blend while he studied and he aced it. I am open to any essential oils advice that anyone has out there.

I almost may be ready to say that I love Barre 3 but probably need a few more classes to be able to fully say that.  It's the Best workout but more to come on Barre 3.

What We Have Been Up To

With the Sweet Boy being sick, I am talking five days of viral fever, we have not been up to much.  I am currently on a work trip to Minneapolis.

What I am Excited About

I am excited about the first part of our home remodel being completed soon.  We gutted our master bathroom down to the studs and opened up the wall between our kitchen and dining room and installed a breakfast bar.  It's only the first part of our home remodel but I am excited about not sharing a bathroom any more with the Sweet  Boy and Running Daddy and seeing it all come together.  I am also excited to share with you all of the before and  after photos in future blogs.  I am also excited about my next Stitch Fix coming at the end of the week.

What I am Watching

Running Daddy and I are still watching a lot of The Bachelor and Beverly Hills Housewives.  At the moment I am watching Chrisley Knows Best...I am not proud of this but I am alone in a hotel room and Beverly Hills Housewives is over.

What I am Listening to

Over the last year I have really gotten into pod casts during my commute.  They are all entertainment based and mostly focus on Housewives and the Bachelor.  Some of my favorites include Bitch Sesh, Watch What Crappens, Rose Pricks and Juicy Scoop.  My commute is about 30-40 minutes each way so I totally need something to make me laugh and chill after a long day.  Please don't judge....check them out if you love entertainment.

What I'm Doing this Weekend

Last regular season game for hockey is this weekend.  I also need to start packing up our basement for the basement remodel. Running Daddy leaves Sunday to finish a big work course so we will try to spend as much time as a family. I also have a hair appointment and another Barre 3 class.

What I am Wearing

I am currently wearing black leggings, the Lilly Pulitzer Crystal Coast Skipper popover and Lilly Pulitzer Jelly Fish reading glasses.

What I am Looking Forward to Next Month

I am looking forward to the March hockey tournament for the Sweet Boy.  Running Daddy finishing up his work course and coming home.  Can't wait to find out who is on the Sweet Boy's lax team.  I am also looking forward to warmer weather and hoping that the winter stays mild.  I can't wait to try out our renovated bathroom and having Running Daddy hang out at our new breakfast bar with a beer while I make dinner.

So that's what's going on in the Good Better Best household.

What's Up with you?

Ladies Who Link: February--What's in My Make Up Drawer

I am linking up with A Gal Named Al and Mom's Coffee Date for their monthly link up. This is the first time I have done something like this but we are talking about what's in our make-up drawers.

We are going through a pretty big home renovation around here (more on that coming soon) and about a month ago I had to clean out our master bathroom to start the gutting with one days notice. Well one thing I learned in that clean out, I own a lot of beauty products, to the point that I should not have an open pore or a line on my face.  But in this process I did get rid of a lot of samples and I am hoping with our remodeled bathroom on the way I will have way less product to hoard.

Here is what I am currently using on a regular basis:

1) Cleansers:

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser in the winter and Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash in the summer.  The Sweet Boy and Running Daddy bought me a Kiehl's basket last Valentine's day and I have been hooked ever since.

At night I also use a cleansing oil before I wash my face.  As a person who has always had oily skin I never thought I would be washing my face with oil.  These cleansing oils really help remove makeup and improve skin texture.  Currently I am using Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil and it is nice product at a good price point.

I also always use my Clarisonic every morning in the shower.

2) Moisturizers/Treatments:

Loving more Kiehls products twice a day.  Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 30 in the morning and Ultra Facial Cream most nights.

Twice a week I use Mario Badescu Glycolic Gel to help control acne and fine lines.  I have been using it for years.

3) Prep/Foundation/Correct:

Prep-I have been using Prescriptives Foundation Primer for decades.

Foundation-Most foundation makes me break out.  I have no idea why and I am talking cystic acne types of breakouts.  For about 20 years I have worn Prescriptives foundation but it can be hard to come by because about 5 years or so ago they stopped selling in the stores and went online only.  Many of their products get back ordered.  When I had trouble trying to order their foundation for about a month, I nervously went into Blue Mercury just after Christmas and asked their advice.  The woman who helped me told me that if my skin was that sensitive, then I should try their Lune + Aster BB Cream.  It's awesome!.  No breakouts and makes my skin look amazing.

4) Color: I tend to keep things in the brown/pink family and like a more natural look.

Blush-I only use Bobbi Brown Desert Pink.

Eyes- Base color always is Bobbi Brown Bone.  I have trouble getting eye shadow to stay on even with primer.  This summer I discovered Bobbi Brown Long wearing cream shadow sticks.  They have great staying power and I currently own Taupe and Malted Pink and just ordered Stone.  I also have trouble with mascaras making my eyes itch or at the worst they give me a bad case of pink eye.  I had been using Clinique for a while which doesn't bother my eyes.  Recently I switched to Almay's One Coat Mascara and think it works awesome without making my eyes swell up like golf balls for a lot less.

Lips-I am totally a lipstick girl.  I own way too many but here are some of my favorites.  I have a tendency to stay either in the brownish pink or dark red family depending on season, outfit or occasion.  In addition, because of my health problems my lips are very dry, so I need a lipstick that is very moisturizing.

Bobbi Brown Desert Rose
Bobbi Brown Raisin Berry
Clinique Black Honey
MAC Twig

5) Fragrance-Right now I am only wearing Chanel in two very different versions.

Chanel Chance Eau Vive is pretty much what I wear every day. Totally me with a clean, citrus fragrance.  It is one of the few perfumes I have never tired of and I will probably wear it for a very long time.

Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere is my choice when I want something a little more dressy.

So here are my Best products in my make up drawer.  What are you favorites?

Finding Joy: Good News, Rosaries, South Fork Ranch and Patriot Miracles

While every day isn't perfect, I do believe that we can find some Joy in every week.  Here's a few Good things in which I found Joy this week:

1) Balloon Rosary: This week at the Sweet Boy's school was Catholic Schools week, which he would tell you is the best week every.  One of the things I have been trying to get to every year is the balloon rosary.  The entire school assembles in the gym and they say the rosary with  helium balloons made into a giant rosary. Each grade takes turns praying for everything from world leaders, to curing cancer to pets.  When they are finished praying they go outside and then let the rosary go.  It is the Best way to spend a morning and I am so glad I was able to get the time to go this year.

Balloon Rosary with prayer intentions heads towards heaven

2) Good News from a friend: I have been praying hard for a lot of my friends and finally got some Good news from one, that while she still has to have surgery, it's not as bad as they thought.  God is so Good.

3) South Fork Ranch: The Sweet Boy's school auction was this past weekend and we decorated our table that we host as the South Fork Ranch a la Dallas circa 1978.  Please tell me that you have heard of this show and I am not talking about the reboot on TNT. I am starting to feel a little old when people don't know what South Fork Ranch is.

It was my favorite table we have done to date and many of us have been at the same table for over five years.  It's always a fun event but this year seemed a little more fun this year.  I loaded up our spring calendar with sign up parties for all of us and a barre class for me...stay tuned for more on that!

Can you hear the theme song in the background?

4) Patriots Super Bowl win: While I was all about being cowgirl on Saturday night, by Sunday I was all back in my Boston mode ready to watch the Pats go for Super Bowl Victory number five.  Let's just say that the first part of the game didn't start the way any of us had hoped and it was looking surprisingly flat out bad at times. I almost turned the game off with six minutes to go, but I always tell people, never bet against Tom Brady because he is the Best.

Pretty much I felt like Giselle after that win.

I know a lot of people don't like the Patriots, but I grew up in New England and for decades they were horrible.

And about the people who don't like Tom Brady...Five Baby...see Gisele above,

What are you finding Joy in this week?
