Monthly Musings May 2025: Kicking Off Summer

It's Friday Eve Besties and it is also time for May Monthly Musings! For May, Holly and I are kicking off summer and we have a lovely group of talented writers that will be joining us too.

With Memorial Day marking the unofficial kick-off to summer, we re ready to share all of the summer plans and fun. We were so busy last summer getting ready for college drop-off that summer fun took a little bit of a backseat. Summer 2025...I am so ready for you!

1. What are you looking forward to most this summer?

While I loved the graduation season last year and the process of getting ready for college send-off, I am ready to have a real summer in 2025. Hoping that all of our friends are around and I also cannot wait to get back to Hilton Head.

I also need to return to the farmer's market on the weekend in Old Town or at least the farm stand that comes to our neighborhood.

2. Any favorite summertime traditions?

We typically go on vacation in August but mostly we just go with the flow.

3. Any summer travel plans? Please dish!

Due to college drop-off and all of the planning for the first year of college, we didn't go to Hilton Head in 2024 like we typically do. We did make a shorter trip to the island in December because we missed it so much. I am looking forward to being back there this summer.

We are actually bringing our dog for the first time in the summer. We brought him in December so it will be interesting to see how he does as a summer beach dog. It will be interesting because he is a labrador mix...who doesn't like water.

Running Daddy and I are also deciding where we are going to go after college drop off this year. In 2024, we went to Knoxville to chill for a day.

4. How do you red, white and blue?

I always start with a pair of white jeans, they are classic and so easy. I wore this tunic with white jeans for Memorial Day.

5. Beach, lake or pool?

We vacation at the beach every year, so that is always my top pick. I do like a little lake life for a long weekend. I also love a lake in the early fall.

Even though we gave up our pool membership this year, I never turn down an opportunity to hang out at a pool.

6. Favorite summer sweet treat?

I am an ice cream gal. My favorite ice cream is black raspberry with chocolate jimmies.

This weekend I did bring dessert to a friend's house and I think it is going to be my go-to summer dessert. I made gluten-free brownies and then brought ice cream and all of the toppings. I am here to tell you that coffee ice cream on a brownie is a winning combo! Trader Joe's makes a killer coffee ice cream!

7.  Favorite sunscreens and self-tanners?

This is such an important topic and I cannot wait to see comments on this.

For my face, I love La Roche-Posay Anthelios in SPF 60. A friend of mine who works with dermatologists gave me this sunscreen and I love it. It's great under makeup and provides Good coverage.

For body, I just buy the Trader Joe's spray. The guys will only use the regular and I typically grab the mineral spray. It's a great product and you cannot beat the price.

I have finally settled in that I think the Isle of Paradise Body Drops are the Best self-tanner. I love that you can mix it into your own body lotion. This feature is a win for me because I am an itchy skin gal.

This self-tanner isn't orange, doesn't streak and fades nicely. There is a little bit of a smell, I mean they all have them, but it is not as strong as some others.

8. Best flip-flops or sandals?

For flip-flops, I always wear Oka-B. For regular sandals, I am 100% a Jack Rogers gal.

9. How are you staying fit this summer?

I am trying to walk earlier in the day when it is cool and also trying to keep going to Barre3 this summer.

10. Favorite summer-themed movies?

A Summer Place-this movie is kind of old and a totally a product of it's time but every time it is on, I stop and watch it. Sandra Dee is adorable and Troy Donahue lives up to the hype.

Clam Bake-speaking of period pieces, this movie starring Elvis is so fun.

Shag-this movie from the late 80's, set in the early 60's is super fun. Think Myrtle Beach with all of the 1960's fun.

Jaws-In our household, we stop and watch Jaws every time it is on.

Vacation- Always a fun trip to Wally World.

The Summer I Turned Pretty-Not a movie, but I cannot wait for season three to come out. Unpopular opinion, I am totally Team Bonrad.

I hope this post has you all ready for summer! Please try to visit the talented writers who link up with us. If you joined us for Monthly Musings be sure to link back to us and use the link up below.

  1. I'm an ice cream gal too and brownie sundaes are one of our favorites (even though we probably only have them once or twice a year). My husband and I are headed to Montana shortly after college drop off this year and I'm really looking forward to crossing another national park off my list.

  3. We're going to HHI this summer too, we've rented a house there. I haven't been in a couple of years and am looking forward to going back. We're going to have all the grands with us (5 under 8) which will be fun and a different kind of trip, but their parents are coming too so we're good lol. I need a dessert for tomorrow night and now you have me thinking of brownies and ice cream. I don't think you can ever go wrong with brownies. Thanks for hosting!
