Hey there Besties. I am finally back for another Friday Favorites. Writing and sharing things that bring me Joy seems to be exactly what I need right now. I am so looking forward to taking a deep breath and trying to enjoy this weekend. Last weekend felt a little hard.
Today I am linking up with Erika and Andrea for Friday Favorites. This week's list has my favorite tennis shoes of all time, a body serum that will help cut down on shaving (really), and what the movie 9 to 5 taught me. I will finish things up with a lovely show that I needed right now and I think I finally found a mascara that works for my dry eye. Let's jump into this long weekend and enjoy a few Friday Favorites.
1. Tretorn Tennis Shoes
I have been wearing Tretorn tennis shoes since I was probably thirteen years old. The reason why I have always loved Tretorns is that they are not clunky. Some of the trending tennis shoes look rather clunky in my opinion. For a person who is not very tall, my feet are on the larger size. I am an 8.5 shoe size now, and was an 8 before I had Hockey Guy. That means in any type of sneaker, I am in a 9. A clunky size 9 on someone who is not super tall is not super cute.
My most recent pair were the white on white leather which I love. Unfortunately, I couldn't find those in my size to do a true replacement, so I went with the pink canvas. I did have this same pair about fifteen years ago and they served me well. When you wear the same tennis shoes almost your whole life, sometimes you have to repeat colors.
2. Cyperus Rotundus Oil
I have been using this Cyperus Rotundus Oil all summer, and while I don't think it actually removes hair, I do think it makes leg hair finer and easier to shave. Plus, I think it gives me an extra day I can do without needing to shave my legs. I have also found it really great to help eliminate ingrown hairs and razor burn.
The key is you have to use it. Just fill the dropper and rub it on your legs every day after you get out of the shower. I also use it along my swimsuit line to keep the area smooth as possible. Right now it is under $10 and the first bottle I bought lasted me at least two full months this summer.
3. 9 to 5
Like everyone else on the planet, Running Daddy and I watched 9 to 5 last weekend. One of the things that really struck me about this movie was the things that I totally take for granted as a working woman and wife, they were fighting for in this movie. I mean one of their co-workers got fired because she had to pick up her child.
This movie is more than a fun Saturday night, it was a total movement and I now know why my mom, her friends and women around this country flocked to the theaters when it came out. The Best part, the message is very clear but in a fun and not preachy way. Thank you ladies!
4. The Five Star Weekend
I am in a place where I cannot handle most things on tv. Most stories on the news right now are really dark or are just people yelling at each other to get airtime. I cannot handle one more streaming series on someone else who murdered their wife in my current headspace. Hello The Five Star Weekend on Peacock, you are exactly what I needed.
Sometimes I just need to hang out with my friend Jennifer Garner. Ok, we are not really friends, but she is just one of those lovely people that I think everyone wants to be friends with. I am sure if she knew me, we would totally be friends. I mean we were both in love with Ben Affleck until we knew Better. By the way, I know how off my rocker I sound at this moment...it's been a long summer and even longer year.
This story, based on the book by Elin Hilderbrand, had way more depth to it than I thought it might. It was also sweet and visually beautiful. Added bonus, who knew that I could love Chloe Sevigny so much. Her character is very cool in this series.
Another delight is the companion podcast hosted the author Elin Hilderbrand. Elin is a very Good interviewer and asks all the fun questions you would want her to ask. There are delightful conversations with Jennifer and Chloe but then also really interesting discussions with the set designers and even the food stylist. If you need a little more Joy and delight in your life, check out this book, series and podcast.
5. Twenty Twenty Mascara
Most mascaras leave my eyes itchy, red or in a worst case scenario swollen to the point that I need an ophthalmologist appointment. I switched eye doctors a few month ago to help me with my dry eyes and she recommended Twenty Twenty Clean Sweep mascara. It was created by an eye doctor and works well for dry and sensitive eyes.
I have been using this mascara almost every day since June and I think this may be the one I can tolerate. There are a few things to keep in mind with this product that I want to make sure you all know:
- This is a tubing mascara so you keep building the product until you are satisfied and then move to the next eye. You don't apply to one eye, let it dry and then do the next coat.
- It's a little tricky to get off but I think I have finally mastered the technique.
- Take a cotton pad and soak it with very warm water
- Apply the cotton pad to your eye to melt the mascara a bit. Then start pulling the mascara down off your lashes. Yes, you will look like you play in the NFL or in Major League Baseball for a few minutes but it will come off.
- Then take a take a makeup remover cloth and clean up the mascara left on and under your eyes, then just use it all over your face.
- Since I have to use an eye wash anyway, I use this as the final step to make sure all the mascara is gone.
