Wednesday Hodgepodge: August 12, 2026

 

I am not going to lie to you Besties, the last few weeks have been really challenging.  I know I have been MIA a lot this year but today I am easing back into things as this space has always brought me Joy. Linking up with From This Side of the Pond is a perfect way to ease back into things.

1. I saw a meme on Instagram that went like this-'The movie Dirty Dancing came out in 1987 and was set in 1963, so if remade in 2026 it would be set in 2002. Now I need a little lie down in a dark room for a while." 

Time is crazy isn't it? So...what were you up to in the year 2002? 

In 2002, I was working in Washington, DC (and I still am) for a member of House leadership in a political roll. At the time I was traveling the country helping to get candidates elected and working on a leadership race. I spent a lot of time in Pennsylvania that election cycle as Pennsylvania is a battleground state. 

I lived in a little apartment in Old Town Alexandria that I still drive by all the time. I hadn't met Running Daddy yet, that would take another couple of years.

2. "Me? I'm scared of everything..." What's something that scares you that you'd like to try anyway? 

I keep thinking that I might want to try hosting a podcast. I was a guest on a Hallmark podcast about 5 years ago and had so much fun. The part that scares me the most is really what equipment to get and would anyone even listen? I keep thinking I should just jump in to try. 

3. Watermelon-yay or nay? Which melon is your favorite-watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew. Of the watermelon food/beverages listed which would you say yes to...

I am a fan of all melons but watermelon is my favorite. I typically have cut up watermelon in our house every week in the summer.

4. August 12th is National Middle Child Day. Are you a middle child? If not, where do you fall in the birth order in your family of origin? Do you think this has influenced your personality? Elaborate. 

I am not a middle child, I am the younger of two. I would not say that I present as the "baby of the family." I am fiercly independent but I did have to enterain myself a lot.

5. Would you rather talk to everyone at a crowded party for a short time, or have a significant conversation with two people? Explain. 

I think it depends on the situation. I am naturally an extrovert so I can walk into any event and chat with people whether I know them or not. If it is a large party I am good with some light conversation. If I run into someone I know that I have not seen in a while I might steal them away and have a more meaningful conversation. 

6. Insert your own random thought here. 

Over the last few weeks I have been focusing on "who's got me and who do I have?" I am pondering the same for Running Daddy and Hockey Guy. My friends have really had me over the last few weeks and I am so blessed to have so many amazing people in my life. In turn, I have been checking in on my people too. Make sure you tell your people you have them, and thank them when they have you when times get tough. I know this is a little deep for Hodgepodge, but I want to make sure I have said this far and wide. 

I am going to try to be back on this site more for the balance of the year. The next week or so will be busy but I am looking forward to exhaling a bit as summer winds down and stepping back into Good Better Best.
