Wednesday Hodgepodge: January 21, 2026

From this Side of the Pond

Today, I am trying something new. I am joining a new link-up party Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by From This Side of the Pond. In 2026, I want to bring some fresh content to the site and this looked like a fun link-up!

Are you ready? Let's go!

1. Ice skating, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, playing in the snow, or a snowy walk...which winter activity do you choose? Have you done any of these activities so far this winter?

We have not had any real snow yet this winter, but it's coming...probably this weekend. Therefore I have not done any of these activities yet this year.

As far as winter activities go, I love to go sledding. I never missed an opportunity to go sledding when Hockey Guy was little.

I love a quiet snowy walk. I love the silence that snow can bring and am looking forward to that silence if it comes this weekend.

I am totally instrugued by snowshoeing. I am not sure when or where I will have this opportunity, but I would definitely like to go snowshoeing one day.

I am not much of a skiier or skater. Interesting fact, I have broken my leg ice skating and skiing. Same bone, same leg one year apart. I was five when I broke my leg ice skating and six when I broken my leg skiing. I know this must sound odd as a hockey mom.

2. Everyone is posting pictures from ten years ago on their social media sites so let's jump on the bandwagon too. Share one photo and one thought to go with said photo from the year 2016. And maybe everyone isn't doing this, but many are and we're going to be part of the fun.

I don't know what I was doing in 2016, but I don't have a ton of photos from 2016.

Celebrating Running Daddy on a rainy cool night in May 2016, with a great group of friends at the Mount Vernon Wine Festival.

3. What's a trend you hope disappears in this new year?

I would like people to stop saying "And just like that". It's annoying, it's over used and you are not SJP.

4. 'They' say there's a day for everything and January 21st proves it. National Granola Bar Day. Do you like granola bars? How about just regular granola? Do you like bars of other kinds?

I do like granola bars, the challenge is that gluten-free granola bars are typically not that Good. I do like granola and typically gluten-free granola is Better than in a bar form, but in general I am not much of a bar gal.

5.  A frozen lake, a trickling stream, a raging river, or a deep well...which one describes something about your life right now? Elaborate as much or as little as you like.

I would say that my life is more like a moving river, not necessarily raging. Things are moving rapidly and I am not sure where they are going. I need to pay attention to things as they have the ability to get a little rough if I am not keeping an eye on things.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I think my most random thought right now, and Running Daddy would agree, is that having a three month old puppy is so much like having a toddler. Hunger, overtiredness, teething can play so much into how your day or evening is going to go. They are also sweet when they cuddle and adorable when they are sleeping.

That was fun! I hope to join in on this link-up more in the future.  Feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.

One more ask, please follow me on social media. Links are on this page. I am happy to follow you back too. I often have reviews and content on Instragram (@pcricheygbb) that are not on this site,

  2. We had a sprinkling of snow but not enough to do anything fun! I used to love sledding when I was a kid!
As soon as someone says "And just like that" I always think of SJP.

  4. Welcome to the Hodgepodge! Your puppy is so cute!! Which is a good thing, right? Puppies are a lot of work! Wow, two broken legs is crazy. Did you give up skiing? I am more reluctant these days to try anything to risky (broken bone wise). I broke my ankle this spring and although it's completely healed it still doesn't feel right and I'm thinking this is my new normal. Thanks for joining in today! Have a nice rest of the week!

  5. Puppies are so adorable! And yes, so much work! Haha I just had flashbacks to when I first got my dog, he's going to be 9 this spring, but I sat on my floor crying on the phone to my mom because I was so tired & stressed out haha

  6. Your puppy is so cute! Our furbaby just turned 9 and she is our last. We have two grandpups that we can enjoy too. Wow, 2 breaks a year apart! I am glad you recovered. No snow my way. Stay warm as I heard on the news about a big freeze out your way. Our high will be 69 today and it was 79 yesterday.

  8. What a cute puppy! They are like having a toddler though. That's wild that you broke the same leg one year apart doing winter things. Hopefully we can enjoy this weekend's snow!
