Wednesday Hodgepodge: Wednesday, February 25, 2026

From this Side of the Pond

The month of February is flying by. We had a little bit of snow and cold the first part of the week, but nothing like what our friends to the north received. Hope everyone is ok and staying warm in the northeast. Jumping into again today to join Joyce for Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. America celebrates turning 250 years old this year. Primary cities set to lead the celebrations on July 4th are Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. Other significant locations for celebrating will be Charleston SC and the 'historic triangle' which includes Jamestown-Willimasburg-Yorktown Virginia.

Of the cities listed how many have you seen in person? Of the cities listed which would you most like to visit this year? Any plans to do so? What's one place in America you think everyone should see? If you're not American what's one place in the US you'd like to see?

I am from Boston and currently live and work in the Washington, DC area. I have been to every city listed above also.

2. Three sounds you love to hear?

I love the sound of a champagne cork, the sound of hockey pucks hitting sticks in pre-game warm-ups (IYKYK), and the call of the Barred owls that live in the woods across the street from our house.

3. Three sounds you hate to hear?

I hate hearing sirens, slamming doors, and the sounds of the impact of a car accident.

4. February 24th is/was National Tortilla Chip Day. Are you a fan? With salsa, guacamole, queso, or just plain please? Do you like nachos? With what on top? Is there anything (besides nachos) you make that calls for tortilla chips?

We eat a lot of tortilla chips in the Good Better Best household. We always have an open bag and a bag in reserve in our house. I love everything above with my tortilla chips.

I love to top chili with tortilla chips and if you have never topped tomato bisque with tortilla chips you are missing out.

5. We March into March with next week's Hodgepodge...what's one thing on your March calendar that makes you smile?

I think the thing about March that makes me smile, it just flipping the calendar to March 1. The start of March means the weather is going to get Better soon and I can start wearing spring clothes in a matter of weeks.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

How fun was it to watch the men and women's hockey teams win Olympic gold?!

I will see you back here to tomorrow for Monthly Musings where we will be discussing ways to make our week easier.

  1. Oh yes to the pop of a champagne cork and all of the sounds you mention put me on edge and panic me. I am so looking forward to wearing lighter clothes when the weather warms up a bit!
