Life Lately-Welcome Home Woodford

Hey there Besties. I have a very fun post today. Before, I get to our fun news, I need to back up to early October and share some not so fun news. Hang in there with me, the end of this post will get Better.

On October 2nd, we lost our ten year old dog Stormy to a sudden and severe case of pneumonia. I tried to write a post about him a million times since he passed away and every time I sat down to write about him, I just couldn't make the words flow. I think it was the heartbreak and the chaos of all this happening the day that the federal government shut down for 43 days. It was the absolute worst.

Stormy deserves a little love in this post because he was so sweet. Some dogs are a one person dog. What was unique about Stormy, and he was ahem... unique, was that he had a separate relationship with each one of us.

With Running Daddy, that was his dad that threw the ball all over the yard and took him on adventures. They had after dinner snuggle time and you couldn't break up this bromance.

He knew I was his mom and always knew when I didn't feel well. When I had Covid for an entire month in 2022 he never left my side.

He was obsessed with Hockey Guy. Frankly, they were obsessed with each other. They played lacrosse together, drove around together and Stormy was even part of prom posal one year.

Stormy woke up happy every day. He knew he was safe and he knew he was loved. And this is why our family will always choose rescue dogs. "It was all worth it."

We needed a little time before we entertainted the idea of a new dog. Hockey Guy came home for Thanksgiving and agreed that the house was way too quiet. Running Daddy said the dog would find us and we knew that it could take two weeks or six months to find the right dog.

Enter Woodford (not his origional name). He's an 11 week old rescue puppy. He is a lab mix and smart as all get out. And yes, he is named after the bourbon.

Did we intend to get a dog at Christmas...no. He's not a Christmas gift as dogs are not gifts. He was just the right dog at the right time when we are all home for a while. We worked with a Good rescue that Running Daddy's friend works with.

Woodford's start in life wasn't great, but you can tell he knows he is safe now and is really starting to feel like this is his home. He also has five brothers that are looking for their forever homes. If you live in the Washington, DC area, message me if you want to know more about his brothers that are available for adoption.

So besides Christmas and Christmas break, year-end work deadlines and trying to rest a little, we are all Woodford all the time in our house.

I hope you are are enjoying these last few weeks of the year. If you need me I will be snuggling with my puppy after running around hitting year-end goals.
