Monthly Musings May 2026-Summer 2026 Preview

Whew Besties, here we are at the end of May. We are past Memorial Day so we are unofficially in summer. Are you excited? For May's Monthly Musings we are previewing Summer 2026.

If you are joining us as a writer for Monthly Musings, please link back to my site here and link-up below. I look forward to finding out whatever has planner for summer and all of the summer favorites.

1. Tell Us About Your Memorial Day Weekend

Despite a very rainy weekend, that is turning into a very rainy week, we had a full Memorial Day weekend. Friday night was more chill and we crashed pretty early. Saturday and Sunday during the day we did house projects as I am working to tranform the upstairs home office into more of a libary/sitting room. It will take some time to clear out all of the clutter but I did give away the desk and a desklamp. Hoping to get this project complete within the next month or so.

Saturday night we went to a party and saw some friends. Sunday we got together with family.

It was a full weekend and I think I even got some rest along the way.

2. What were your summer jobs when you were younger?

My first summer job was in a flower shop and I learned a lot about flowers that summer. I cannot tell you how many centerpieces I put together that year. I also worked at Filene's, which no longer exists. Filene's was kind of like Macy's.

3. Ice cream or popsicles? Favorite flavors?

If I can only choose one I will always choose ice cream. My favorite ice cream is black raspberry with chocolate jimmies (sprinkles). I also love a root beer popsicle, which are really hard to find these days.

4. What do you like on your hamburgers and hot dogs?

First, being gluten-free I am always bun free. For burgers, it depends on what mood I am in. I typically put avocado or guacamole on my bugers. If you have not tried avocado on a burger, give it a try. Works on both beef and turkey burgers. I also love mayo, garlic aioli, or chipotle mayo.

For hot dogs, I am a ketchup only gal.

5. Beach, lake or mountains?

I truly love all three. For our summer vacations we always do a beach vacation. I could also be happy being on a lake. I think I might like the mountains more in the fall or spring.

6. Share any travel for summer 2026

Right now the only travel we have planned is our Hilton Head vacation and helping with college move-in for year three. That might be it for now.

7. Do you visit amusement parks in the summer? Tell us your favorites?

I like the idea of amusement parks but I am not a fan of any ride that has big drops. I wish I could be one of those fearless people who loved rollercoasters but I totally start panicking when there is a drop.

I really like Hershey Park and Busch Gardens and both are within a couple of hours from our house.

8. Do you enjoy dining outside in the summer?

I could eat outside all the time especially in the summer. Is there anything Better than a great summer dish and cocktail outside?

9. Favorite summer beverage?

I love a skinny colada which is basically Malibu rum, pineapple juice and splash of soda water. I am also a big fan of the aperol spritz. The pre=made ones are very fun and I typically have them on hand in the summer.

10. Favorite side dish for summer parties? Please feel free to share receipes.

When in doubt, I will make a tomato caprese salad. Everyone likes caprese, it's gluten free and just says summer. I will typically serve with a balsamic glaze on the side.

I also love corn salad. My favorite is the one that Reece Witherspoon shared in her book that waqs created by her grandmother. You can find it here

I hope this post helps get you ready for summer. If you are linking up with me this month, the link is below. Please take a moment to visit the writers who are joining us for Monthly Musings below.
