Here we are on the last Thursday of September. Did September fly by for anyone else? For September's Monthly Musings it is basically a buffet of early fall topics. Holly and I want to share what is working for back-to-school routines now that people have been settled in for a bit, favorite fall recipes, food and all of the fall fun. Join us for our link-up party that we host with a group of other talented writers for all of the goodness that fall brings. It's finally here!
1. What are your Best tips for getting into a fall/back-to-school routine?
As an official bird launcher, my back-to-school days are over or have taken a new look. The one thing that I will share is that for the first month or so is to be easy and flexible. Make dinner easy, don't pile on too many activities and understand, that everyone will be really tired!
2. Please share your favorite fall recipes. Crowd/family pleasers welcome!
I definitely think my smoky sausage chili is a great fall meal. Perfect for those days when you are out of the house for long hours and want to return home to something delicious and healthy after a long day.
Another great fall meal is the Already Better Chicken with Butternut Squash, Cranberries and Wild Rice Bake. This would be a great weekend meal with a glass of chardonnay.
3. Favorite Fashion Staples
I wrote about these yesterday but the pants that I wear every season that never let me down are the Loft Riviera Slim Pants. They are consistent in sizing and I just get new colors and replace staples like navy and black when needed.
This week the cocoa and deep burgundy colors arrived at my house. I think the cocoa color is having moment. I think it is more like an acorn color and I am seeing this a lot in fall fashion this year.
4. Favorite part of back-to-school this year?
Since our back-to-school was college drop-off , my feelings on this subject are a little different. I basically did really well at college drop- off and the days following, but my favorite part of back-to-school 2024 is knowing that my son is settled in and happy at college.
5. Do you celebrate Homecoming where you are?
Yes, Hockey Guy's high school had a full week of Homecoming activities and he had a lot of fun with those. My high school, even though football was pretty big at my school, didn't really do much around Homecoming.
6. Apple pie or apple cider?
Apple cider all the way. I really don't like any type of pie plus because I am gluten-free there are not a lot of pie options for me.
7. Do the leaves change color where you are? If so when?
We are starting to see a little hint of the leaves changing colors here in Virginia this week. I would say by mid-October we should have full-color foliage.
8. Favorite fall sweet treat? Do you have any recipes to share?
I love pumpkin anything for the most part. I don't really have a lot of recipes to share because I don't do a lot of baking. I am looking forward to some inspiration from the other ladies who link up with us on this topic.
9. Hayride or bonfire?
I love both. I haven't been on a hayride since Hockey Guy was little, but I do like a hayride.
Frankly, there is nothing Better than a bonfire or firepit in the fall. How many amazing nights have we all had with friends and a firepit?
10. Movies that give you the back-to-school feels?
I would say that the movies that make me think of back-to-school are of course Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink, and Mean Girls. Running Daddy layered in with Animal House.
Feel free to share all of your favorites of any of the topics in the comments below. If you are joining us as a writer for Monthly Musings please link-up with us below, link back to Holly and me, and try to read and comment on at least two of the sites below who join us.
You successfully launched that bird too! Your recipes always look so good- need to try! Thanks for being the best blogging partner!
ReplyDeleteSo glad your son is doing well at college. Thanks for hosting and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI immediately thought of the movies School Ties and Good Will Hunting (even though I guess technically he's not "back to school" in that last one!). I have done really well with drop off too but I think it definitely helps that he's so settled and happy. I'm pretty sure if he was calling because he was miserable or homesick I'd feel a whole lot different!
ReplyDeleteThat chicken and rice dish sounds perfect for fall! I am going to have to add that to my every growing list of recipes to try!
I can't imagine how different back to school was for you this year. I'm glad to hear Hockey Guy is settling in well. That must be such a relief for you.
