What's Up Wednesday September 2023

Wow September you were eventful. We spent time getting back into the school routine and I had a big work event at headquarters which took up a lot of time and energyHere on the last Wednesday of September, I am linking up with Shay and Shaeffer for their monthly link-up What's Up Wednesday. Settle in with your favorite fall treat and join me for all things September.

What We Are Eating This Week

Monday-Burgers, hot dogs, tots and cucumber/hearts of palm salad

Tuesday-Crockpot beef barbeque sandwiches with salad

Wednesday-Beef tips, rice, salad

Thursday-I am going out to celebrate a friend's birthday and the guys are on their own.

Friday-take out, always take out on Fridays

What I am Reminiscing About

Especially with the work event I had this month, I have been thinking a lot about last September. I had COVID in September 2022 for basically the entire month. Not the type of COVID where I just kept testing positive for the month but felt fun, but full-blown, symptomatic COVID from September 5 to September 29. I had a really rough health journey from September 2022 until March of this year but hopefully, I am in a decent place with my health right now.

What I'm Loving

I am truly loving all things September and I think it is because I couldn't leave my house the entire month of September last year so I am truly appreciating all of the early fall feels this year.

I am also loving the start of Hockey Guy's senior year. I am taking each step at a time and really embracing the Joy in the Lasts

What We've Been Up To

We are in full school mode here. We had a really Good back-to-school night, probably one of the Best ever. It didn't even both us that it was the last back-to-school night ever.

I had a big work event at headquarters that while it was a ton of work turned out really well and was a totally cool experience.

Running Daddy has been also working really hard the past few weeks getting ready for a potential government shutdown. Cross your fingers this all gets resolved soon.

The bright light in all of this is that Hockey Guy's travel season has started and he is tearing it up. It's a wonderful break from all of the work.

I have also been embracing all of the early fall feels. I have shopped for apples and pears at our local farm stand and broken the seal on all of the fall finds at Trader Joe's and pumpkin spice Goodness

What I'm Dreading

As usual, there are a bunch of weeds by the porch door and they are literally mocking me. Basically almost every month I mention that I am dreading weeding, this month is no exception.

What I'm Working On

There are big work things I am working on but there are small but important things I am also working on too.

This month I am working on making a bunch of health screening appointments. I have my mammogram later this week and then in October I am getting a baseline stress test and also my first skin check with the dermatologist. I also need to pick up the phone this week, get into the dentist, and make a dental appointment for Hockey Guy.

I also need to work on removing my makeup and washing my face way earlier at night. This typically helps me get ready for bed earlier too.

What I'm Excited About

Honestly, I am so excited about fall this year. I am loving the baking, the cooking with all of the fall veggies, fall fashions and settling in with my fall movies. I am just so happy to be healthy this season and I am soaking in every minute of it.

What I'm Watching/Reading

I am still reading mostly school forms and the great writers who link up with us for Monthly Musings. This is just not a season in my life where I have a ton of time to read books.

I am watching the new Real Housewives of New York and run hot and cold with it. I want to love it, I am just not sure I do. I think I am just fascinated by Jenna Lyons.

On the other hand, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake is completely epic. Meredith Marks is completely unglued and I never thought that Mary would be missed but I am loving her return.

We have also been really happy that Southern Charm, speaking of unhinged. This season is really off to a bang. We are always Team Craig in our house and I love Patricia.

 What I'm Listening To

Yesterday was a particularly stressful day so I found a playlist on Spotify called Cozy Country and it was just what I needed.

For podcasts, I am listening to all of my regular Housewives podcasts but found a new one called The Daily Dose of Dana, and she has some interesting takes on Hollywood because she used to be a casting agent.

What I'm Wearing

I needed to replace several things in my fall wardrobe and I am loving a lot of what is out there.

The Loft Riviera pants are my go-to pants for any season. I needed to grab a pair of navy ones as my navy pants were a Good four years old. I also like Loft pants because they have a curvy size option which I need these days. Their size 6 curvy works really well for me.

The sweater blazer is everywhere this fall and I am so here for it. It's a really Good work option but I could see wearing this with nice jeans. I bought this light blue one from J Crew Factory and just love it. The fabric is so soft and a Good weight for early fall with a white tank. I paired with simple black pants and my Rothy's square-toe flats. If you haven't tried Rothy's yet, they live up to the hype and with my code you can save $20 off your first pair.

For the sweater cardigan, I took my usual size small. I found it very true to size.

 What I'm Doing This Weekend

After hockey was canceled last week due to weather, and for the record hockey is never canceled, we have two hockey games this weekend and I am here for it.

I am also getting my hair done and I am looking forward to a little time to myself.

I think we will start adding in some fall and potentially some Halloween movies.

I am also thinking I need to get into the yard and start pulling some weeds, plus I need to look at some bushes that may have taken a beating with the storms last weekend. Plus I have to finish up some fall decorating.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month

I am looking forward to more fall fun in October. I cannot wait to keep watching fall and Halloween movies.

Speaking of movies, Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas starts in October and the first movie is hockey-themed. Yes Please! How fun is Checkin' It Twice going to be?

The puck drops on High School hockey in October and I cannot wait to see Hockey Guy in his senior year of hockey. I am so proud that he is serving as Assistant Captain this year and it really has been the fulfillment of a dream of his since he was a little kid attending these high school games.

What Else is New

The only other new thing is that Holly and I are hosting Monthly Musings tomorrow and we will be sharing fall and Halloween fun. So if you have not had your first pumpkin spice latte yet, you will be ready for one after you join us for all of this fall Goodness.

Topics below if you want to join us in the linkup.

Thanks for joining me today. I look forward to seeing you all back here tomorrow for Monthly Musings.
