What's Up Wednesday-August 2023

August has been a very eventful month. We had a dreamlike vacation, a bunch of work and back to school prep. Since it is the last Wednesday of August I am linking up with Shay and Shaeffer for their monthly link-up What's Up Wednesday. Take a moment to breathe and find out what we have been up to in August.

What We Are Eating This Week

This is the first week of classes and hockey is in full swing, so meal planning is key right now. I am definitely planning our meals around hockey nights. The Good news about practices being so late this year is that Hockey Guy will be home for dinner on hockey nights for now.

Monday-Raspberry balsamic chicken, rice and salad

Tuesday-Baked chicken tacos, black beans and salad

Wednesday- Grilled cheese with fruit

Thursday-Breakfast for dinner! Pancakes, bacon and berries

Friday-End of the week take out

What I'm Reminiscing About

With the start of school and senior year, I am really focusing on finding Joy in the lasts. That being said, I am really thinking back to the first day of kindergarten and how excited Hockey Guy was to start school that day.

He only had 50 kids in his entire class until grade 8 and so many of these kids are still in our lives. At times, it was like having 49 siblings and all of the Good and challenges that come with that. Going to his elementary school changed all of our lives for the Better and we are so grateful for that experience.

What I'm Loving

I am truly loving this new desk setup that I bought for my office at Five Below. Yes, Five Below.

 What We've Been Up To

We had another dreamlike vacation to Hilton Head Island. The boys golfed, Running Daddy ran a race on the beach, we had some great beach time and amazing meals. I love this place so.

Since arriving back home, we have all been working really hard. School is starting this week and Running Daddy and I are hard at work.

Hockey Guy had a birthday and spent it with some friends golfing and then they came over to our house for a bit.

The Best part is that hockey started this past weekend for Hockey Guy's travel team. It's a mix of players that he has played with before and a few new adds. It was a great kickoff to the season winning both games against really tough teams.

What I am Dreading

This weekend I need to clear out a bunch of clutter from our house over the long weekend and I am totally dreading it. I know I will feel Better when this project is complete and things are a bit more organized but I dread the project. I just need to put on a few Good movies and get all of this done.

What I'm Working On

I am working on a big event for work that is coming up in mid-September. Last year I had COVID and could not attend, so I at least know this year will be way easier to pull off than what I did last year.

I am also working on booking all kinds of health screenings this fall. I booked my mammogram for the end of September and if you have not booked yours this year and are overdue...please book today Besties! I am working on dentist appointments, a full body scan at the dermatologist and start picking out frames at Warby Parker.

I am also working to make sure that I am back on a regular schedule for acupuncture. When I am on a regular acupuncture appointment pattern, I sleep Better, I have less anxiety and I am also more productive.

I am also in a little bit of brain overload with work and the start of school. I have been rather forgetful and a little upside down. I need to start working on righting my own ship.

What I am Excited About

I am truly excited about senior year. I think they are going to have the Best time and I am there for all of the traditions this year brings. I am so excited for Hockey Guy and all of his friends and kids that we have known almost their whole lives. I cannot wait to see what is next for them and how they will shine this year.

What I'm Watching/Reading

Anna

While we were on vacation I dove into this biography of Anna Wintour. I have always been fascinated by her and Running Daddy bought this book for me. I am still plugging my way at it and hope to find some time to read this weekend.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

Running Daddy and I finished season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty. We actually thought season two was even Better than season one. These young actors are so amazing and we cannot wait to see what happens in season three which already has the green light.

For the record, we both remain firmly on Team Conrad aka BelRad. We don't dislike Jere, but he is just a total golden retriever. Conrad has such depth.

Running Daddy's favorite character is Stephen!

Swamp Kings

We all watched Swamp Kings on Netflix this past weekend. It is about University of Florida football in the mid-2000s. These are the Tim Tebow years. I am such a big fan of his and of course we love a Good sports story in our house.

Sweet Magnolias

I am slowly getting caught up on season three of Sweet Magnolia's. I have to say that I am not loving this season as much as the other two. With some other things that we love to watch, this one has been on the back burner for a few weeks.

 What I'm Listening To

I am listening to a whole lot of Taylor Swift lately...like everyone else. Mostly I am listening to Taylor Swift Spotify playlists from The Summer I Turned Pretty. Running Daddy said there was a lot of Taylor Swift played at the Iron Man he did last month so we are referring to this as "The Summer He Turned Swifty."

What I'm Wearing

I bought this super cute dress this month from Chico's and it is as comfortable as it is cute.

I paired it with leopard shoes and I think it will take me well into the fall with lots of options for accessories.

With early fall around the corner, I grabbed these pants in rosemary . I have them in white but will be putting them away for the season this weekend. I think the rosemary color will be great as the seasons change. The Best part...right now they are on sale for $20!

They also come in navy and run true to size so I grabbed these in a size 6.

What I'm Doing This Weekend

The boys are going to a hockey tournament but I am going to stay home and get some things organized. I am also planning to do some work and get ready for my work event and knock out some projects related to that.

I am also hoping to prep some food and probably make some zucchini muffins to have on hand for when my boys get back.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month

I am looking forward to all things back to school including Back to School night.

I am also looking forward to completing my big work event and I am hoping it all goes well.

Then most of all, I am looking forward to touches of fall that will be coming our way.

  2. Pretty nice desk set! I've found some great deals at Five Below in the past, but I don't think there's any stores around here. Definitely make sure to get pictures and enjoy all the "last firsts" of the senior year!

  3. Reading about the hockey fun, schedules, etc, it takes me back. Our son played all through high school and now that we've been away from that for a while now, I wonder how the heck did we do that!!? : ) Now, by 8:00 I'm in my p.j.'s and ready for bed. Back then I'd be heading to a game or maybe even driving to one an hour away, in the snow, and getting home around 11-11:30 and then get up for work and do it all again.
Now, he works in the front office for a minor league team and when we visit him, we are always at the rink-and I'm always cold (and reminded of the hockey "scent")

    1. It's the Best sport in my opinion. It's early, it's late, it's difficult and it's cold and it's the most fun. And you are correct...it has a unique smell! Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Your Hilton Head vacation does sound wonderful! Wishing your son a wonderful senior year. I'm excited for senior year too; though I've graduated one already homeschooling senior year just isn't anywhere near the same as traditional senior year.
