Hey there Besties! Here we are at the very last day of July. I was walking through downtown Washington, DC this week to meet my niece, her husband and a friend for drinks and it literally felt like an oven walking the five blocks from my office. Even though it has been a crazy hot summer, Holly and I are getting together today and our topic for Monthly Musings is How We Summer. Beat the heat and join out link-up for all of the summer fun.
1. Favorite Thing About Summer 2025?
Honestly, my favorite thing about Summer 2025 was having Hockey Guy home for three full months. The vibe is just different in the house when he is home and the dog is happy. Running Daddy and I had a lot of fun during the school year, but I do cherish the three (four with the dog) being back together.
2. Favorite Thing You Ate This Summer?
While this answer will change in about ten days because we have not gone to Hilton Head yet, but I think my favorite thing I ate was the shark brownies I made for a party a few weeks ago. They taste as Good as they look.
I'm not really a baker and I am so not a crafter, but these came out really fun. Full disclosure the base is the Trader Joe's gluten-free brownie mix.
3. Did You See Any Summer Movies (stream or theater)?
Running Daddy is really into F1 racing so we saw F1 the weekend it opened. Even if you are not into racing, this is an amazing movie. We saw it at the Imax at the Air and Space Museum which has a four-story screen.
Besties, I am not going to lie to you, Brad Pitt is typically not my type, but sixty-year old, sober Brad Pitt on a four-story screen is pretty easy on the eyes.
On another note, we are probably doing a date night for the new Naked Gun. We really run the spectrum in our relationship.
4. What Books Did You Read This Summer
I am not much of a reader. I want to be and I am going to try to work on that this fall. I am looking forward to see what other suggest in their July posts.
5. Ready for Fall or Hold Onto Summer?
Right now, I am enjoying summer. By about the third week of August I will start to long for fall.
6. What is Different About Your Summer Schedule Than the Rest of the Year?
This is a Holly question and a really Good one. This is also a question I would have answered very differently five years ago.
Now that Hockey Guy is older, I really schedule the summer around three work schedules. We need to figure in his work hours for coordinating things like the dog walker, cleaning crew and dinner.
The other thing that changes for work is traffic. The traffic really changs in Washington, DC in the summer. Some weeks the city is packed with tourists, think July 4th, and there is more traffic and more foot traffic which can impact my commute. Months like August where Congress is in recess, traffic can be super light. In August I can typically get into the city in less than thirty minutes and we live about twelve miles out of town. And yes, I go to the office almost every day.
7. How Do You Take a Break/Relax in Summer?
Our vacations are very relaxing. The beach is always a Good idea, but being in a gated community on an island really makes you slow down. This summer we are bringing our dog and I looking forward to taking him down early in the morning to the beach with some coffee and then after five o'clock for happy hour on the beach.
8. Any Trips Still on the Calendar for the Rest of the Summer?
We have our family vacation and then college drop-off. On the way back from college drop-off Running Daddy and I are stopping in a small southern town for a night. We have decided we like visiting smaller southern towns and cities on these trips as a change of pace. There are so many neat places to see in this country and I will keep you posted on this trip.
9. Any Summer Concerts This Year?
Nope, not a one.
10. When Does Summer End in Your World?
For me personally, I think that summer will end after Labor Day when Congress is back in session. My work world will really ramp back up again and summer is over.
A few years ago I would have answered that summer would end when school started the end of August. Now that Hockey Guy is in college, things just feel a little different.
Ok, that is how we are summering in the Good, Better, Best household. I cannot wait to hear about the summers for everyone that links up with us.
Brownies will never not be a favourite! Glad you had your kiddo home for a bit :)
