What's Up Wednesday: July 2018

Here we are at the very end of July, wow this summer is just roaring by. Since we are at the last Wednesday  it's time for What's Up Wednesday with MelShaeffer, and Shay. Let's take a look into what July had for us.

What We Are Eating This Week?

Honestly, I have no dinner schedule for the week. Seriously. Hockey Guy is at sleep away camp and I have a really big work project this week, so I am going to take dinner as it comes. Wednesday night Running Daddy and I may try the lobster special at Harris Teeter and I know we will have pizza on Friday night to welcome Hockey Guy home but that's about it. I wouldn't do this any other week, but that is how this week is going to go.

What I am Reminiscing About

With Hockey Guy at hockey camp this week, we have been talking a lot about his past hockey years. He loves this game so much and has made some really Good friends on his teams over the years.

What I am Loving

I am really loving our garden this year. I didn't plan one last year because we were in the middle of our renovation last year and I just couldn't tend to a garden and deal with all of the decisions of a major home renovation.  This year we planted eggplant, white eggplant, yellow squash, cucumber, peppers, basil, tomatoes, zucchini and beans. I would say that the white eggplant and the yellow squash seem to be coming up first. We have a lot of green tomatoes and they should turn red soon. Hockey Guy is in charge of the watering and we go out every afternoon to check how things are looking out there.

Even if you can just do a few plants in pots, gardens are really Good for kids. I wouldn't call Hockey Guy the most adventurous eater but since he was little he would try anything from the garden. He has been eating eggplant since he was about five years old and I am sure it is only because he has helped grow those plants.

What We Have Been Up to

Like a lot of us, we have been up to a lot. Hockey Guy has had a bunch of sports camps and has been doing the workouts with swim team. Running Daddy did the Stone Harbour Triathlon in Stone Harbour and we were able to see my sister when he did this race.

We saw Reba McEntire and it was the Best show I have ever seen. Hockey Guy is such a fan now and despite the heat index, it was a really Good night. We also was the movie Jaws with the National Symphony orchestra. We were supposed to have lawn seats, but with the flash flood warnings all day, I was able to upgrade our seats to the pavilion that afternoon.

What I am Dreading

I am dreading stress. I have a big work project that I am working on that is pretty high profile and I have a tendency to doubt myself at times. This has a tendency to stress me out because I want to do a Good job. So I am dreading the stress from the unknown, but I know the Best way to get get through something is to go through it. I did take a moment this weekend to get a massage and it definitely helped.

What I am Working On

I am working on new types of organization. I bought an Erin Condren notebook for personal use and liked it so much that I bought one for work. I moved my To Do list for work from an electronic format to a written list in my Erin Condren notebook and it has been a really Good switch. One thing that is super helpful is on Thursdays and Fridays I try to take a moment and look at all I have crossed out and give myself a little nod for all of the work that I have done that week.

What I am Excited About

I am excited about picking up Hockey Guy from camp this weekend and hearing about all of the cool things he learned and got to do. This is a pretty intense hockey camp led by NHL coaches and he is there with friends.

I also excited about putting the final plans in place for our trip to Hilton Head next month. I am really looking forward to exploring a new beach town. Please feel free to send any Hilton Head tips in the comments below.

It's also been Hallmark's Christmas Keepsake Week which I really needed right now. I so needed some Christmas movies in July.

I am pretty proud of how many books I have been reading lately.  Some of the books I have been reading lately will change your life and some will not. I will let you make up your mind on which books are which.

I finished Pretty Mess by Erika Jayne. You can read my review of this book here

I also just finished Bachelor Nation which was fascinating. I will be working on a review of that one soon.

The Best book I have read lately is Girl Wash Your Face. It really spoke to me and I know a lot of people who are reading it now. I believe that every woman should read it...period. I will be working on a review of this soon.

What I am Listening to

Besides my usual pod casts, my friend just told me about a new podcast called Fatal Voyage that will look into the death of Natalie Wood. Something that I am not too embarrassed to admit I have always been fascinated about. I am going to start that one this week.

What I am Wearing

I will hopefully have an update on what I am wearing from the Nordstrom sale later in the week. One of my items has already made it here but I am anxiously awaiting the rest.

In the meantime I did add these two items to my wardrobe to get me through the summer.

Pull on bow midi skirt from J Crew

I needed some work skirts and grabbed this skirt in both the berry and sapphire to help get me through the summer. It is a really Good length and is super versatile.

I also needed some casual sneakers for the summer to wear with both shorts and pants. I was able to get these sneakers from Sperry in grey.

I chose the grey because in general I love a grey shoe and I think these can take me from summer into fall. They are super comfortable.

What I am Doing This Weekend

We are going to pick up Hockey Guy at camp on Friday and then we are totally going to lay low. Our entire house needs a little more sleep and I know that Hockey Guy is just going to crash after playing hours of hockey all week.

I think I will also start setting up some of our rentals such as our bikes in Hilton Head for our upcoming trip. I am also going to look into if we can do Harris Teeter grocery pick up while we are there. Who needs to spend time in the grocery on vacation? Not this girl!

What I am Looking Forward to Next Month

I am looking forward to vacation in Hilton Head and Hockey Guy's birthday which will happen on the same week. We also head back to school in late August and I look forward to helping Hockey Guy get ready for his next school year. This is going to be a big year for him.

What Else is New

This summer is roaring by. I think it has been a Good mix of work and fun and that is exactly how I hoped it would be.

Hope you had the Best July!

  1. Patty! Can't wait to hear all about your trip to Hilton Head- it's on my bucket list- even though I am awful at golf, I would love to play there. I also LOVE that pink skirt!
