What's Up Wednesday-July 2024

Happy Wednesday Besties! It's been a few months since I joined Shay and Shaeffer for What's Up Wednesday but I am excited to be back this month for this fun link-up. May and June were so busy at the end of the month that this post was just not in the cards. I am looking forward to sharing with you a little food, a little fashion, what I am watching and everything else that happened in July. Are you ready? Let's do this!

What We're Eating This Week

I don't have a set menu this week because there is a lot going on this week, so I am not sure we will be eating together most nights this week. I have a house full of food so no one will starve. For the nights I think we are eating together, here is what we are having.

Tuesday-Enchilada tacos, black beans, salad

Thursday-Running Daddy's parents are coming over and I think we are just going to get pizza.

What I'm Reminiscing About

With Hockey Guy having a big birthday coming up and going to college next month, I am reminiscing about a lot. I am thinking a little bit about how we have been in our house for 18 years and he was just about to be born when we moved in. I am not a person who wants time to slow down, time will do what it does. I am just a person who right now, is enjoying this time.

One the college drop-off part, I am mostly doing ok, but I keep telling people that reserve my right to fall apart. For the most part I am doing ok and keeping myself distracted with the to-do lists, but I also excel at suppressing my feelings. Things you may not realize about me.

What I'm Loving

Besties, I am loving Walmart +. I signed up for it when they had a deal in mid-July and I am loving it. I originally signed up for it because I saw that a supplement that we order in our house was $18 less on Walmart + than it was on Amazon Prime. They also deliver to the campus apartment that Hockey Guy is in so that is a total win for us. I have been having our groceries delivered around 8:30 a.m. every Sunday and it is awesome.

I am also loving the Sally Hansen Problem Cuticle Remover. I mostly do my own nails and use adhesive nail polish strips. I have super thick cuticles and this product by Sally Hansen makes them easy to push down and keep healthier.

What We've Been Up To

Hockey Guy and I went to orientation for his university the beginning of July. We had a great few days there and I got every question I had answered. I feel as comfortable as I can with him going there in just a few weeks. We had Good weather, Good food and I think he had fun.

We did miss our connecting flight due to mechanical issues, which the airline blamed on weather in Bermuda earlier that day. This meant we had to make an unexpected overnight stay in Charlotte. I am currently negotiating with a major airline to get our hotel and other expenses covered. They have started their part of the negotiation with a $50 credit for both of us but I really want the money that I spent on a hotel reimbursed. I think I am getting somewhere on this so please cross your fingers I get our money back.

We have all been working hard and getting things ready for Hockey Guy to go to college.

What I'm Dreading

I am trying really hard to not dread going to college because it's not fair to Hockey Guy. This is about to be the Best time in his life. I dread trying to pack the car and trying to fit everything in. That's a totally fair thing to dread.

What I'm Working On

I am working on all of the to-do, need to buy, already bought, need to bring and don't forget lists for college drop off.

I am also working on some travel plans around college drop-off, parents' weekend, some Thanksgiving plans and maybe even some travel into early 2025. This is the fun stuff!

What I'm Excited About

I am excited about our adventures next month and the new opportunities that Hockey Guy will have. This is going to be so fun to watch.

What I'm Watching/Reading

We have been catching The Bachelorette here and there and I am always amused by it. It's great comic relief if you have had a bad day.

I also just finished America's Sweethearts on Netflix about the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and it was great. It has some of the elements of the original CMT but with more in-depth profiles of the team and way Better production value. Just and Kelli are all business and I love it.

We are also watching the Olympics when we have time and there are events we are into. Running Daddy and I currently watching gymnastics while I am working on this post.

I am also back watching Real Housewives of Orange County. I am team Gina and Emily amuses me. I had gotten very tired of the OC franchise but I am all in right now for the current season.

Tamara can go away, never been a fan.

The way that John Jansen, or Johnnie J as he is now called, is pitting Shannon and Alexis against each other is practically criminal. The dog situation put me over the edge.

And I am counting the days until Sunday for The Real Housewives of New Jersey. If you watch, do you think it is over or getting a reboot? Do you think Teresa will have a cent to her name when Luis is done with her? Yeah, me neither! Leave your thoughts in the comments.

What I'm Listening To

I am listening to a lot of Brett Young, Morgan Wallen, Housewives podcasts, and the Literally podcast with Rob Lowe. Rob Lowe has the Best guests.

What I'm Wearing

I am not really wearing anything all that interesting these days. It's super hot and I am trying to manage all of that with work clothes and then it is freezing in my office. I will say the more I wear these shoes, the more comfortable they get. They are also really on sale right now.

What I'm Doing This Weekend

We have a party on Frida night for some kids in our life to wish them happy graduation and Good luck at college. Saturday night we are getting together with friends and Sunday will probably be church and getting some more college prep things done, maybe a little pool time too.

I will also be locking in our road trip for college drop off.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month

I am looking forward to celebrating a big birthday for Hockey Guy which also coincides with his college kickoff. This is going to be quite the weekend for all of us.

I am looking forward to our road trip down and back from college drop off. We have some fun things that are tentatively planned and can't wait for Hockey Guy to get started.

I am also looking forward to our wine pickup at the winery we belong to called Paradise Springs. Really hoping that Running Daddy and I can take some time to enjoy while we are out there getting our wines. This has always been a place where we can exhale a bit.

What Else is New

I think I covered all of it. July was a Good month and I cannot wait for August.

Thanks for stopping by for What's Up Wednesday. If any of you have any must do's in Chattanooga, TN please leave in the comments or message me. Chattanooga may be one of our stops on the way back.

  1. College drop offs are hard, but it is rewarding to watch your kids grow during this time too. Chattanooga is a great city with so many things! They have Coolidge Park downtown and it is fun to walk the pedestrian bridge (you can park near the Edwin Hotel area) to get to the park and walk the shops. They are known for their Clumpies Ice cream you can get once you walk the bridge. Tony's is our favorite Italian restaurant (Bluff Arts District, which is near the bridge too). Of course, going to Lookout Mountain has amazing views (you can ride an incline up or drive) and there is Rock City & Ruby Falls. They have a great aquarium as well & so many good restaurants! Hope it all goes well!

  5. Oh yes, I am totally dreading trying to squeeze everything into our car too; I'm really regretting getting a smaller car when Alec turned 16 and took over my old car (which we've since traded in so we both have small 4/5 seaters now). So far I don't feel at all sad but my mom keeps warning me I'll be crying the whole way home-- she may be right but I also expected to cry or at least tear up during graduation and I didn't. I was focused more on his excitement. It sounds like you have a real fun weekend planned!
