Besties, we have a few weeks of summer remaining and I am ready to enjoy it. Are you? Today for Monthly Musings, Holly and I selected the topics of Late Summer Fashion and Fun for our July link-up. Please also take a moment to visit the sites of the other writers who are joining us this month. Embrace the last few weeks of longer days and join us for Monthly Musings.
1. Summer travel--where have you been and what trips do you have coming up?
This summer looks a little different than previous summers due to Hockey Guy going off to college this year. We didn't take our traditional summer trip to Hilton Head but we are looking at heading there later in the year.
We made a trip to campus for orientation in July and then next month we head back to campus for the big move-in. The three of us are looking to do something fun on the way down and Running Daddy and I will do something special on the way home. This does help soften the edge of not going on a "real" vacation this summer.
2. Favorite things you have done this summer?
I loved going to orientation with Hockey Guy. We actually lucked out with the weather and I got all of my questions answered. I feel as Good as I can about his college choice and he is so excited.
I also had the opportunity to go to the Flo Rida concert after the Nationals game in June and take Hockey Guy. We had beautiful weather and Hockey Guy met me after work and attended the concert with. It was so fun.
We also had a lovely party on the hottest day to celebrate Hockey Guy's graduation. Great food, amazing friends and family who didn't care that it was super hot and just were there to celebrate the day. We are so blessed.
3. Share your go-to outfits this summer.
I love to throw on a dress and sandals in the summer any day of the week. I am loving this gauze dress and with these platform sandals. It is so easy to wear and was super comfortable to wear for orientation when it was so hot. I also wore it for Hockey Guy's party because navy is one of his university colors. The navy is sold out but the black and white are still available. This is true to size and I wear a small.
4. Summer accessories you are never without?
I am never without a bifocal pair of sunglasses. Did you know there are sunglasses that are regular sunglasses on top and then have a reader function on the bottom? I am currently wearing these.
5. Share your go-to shoes this summer.
In addition to the platform espadrille that I shared above, I am also loving these sandals for work. They have just enough heel to look great for pants or dresses.
I also love the faux bamboo detail. Bamboo just says summer to me. The come in a raffia option too that I am also eyeing now that they are on sale.
White tennis shoes are also so popular this season and I went old school this summer and grabbed these Tretorns.
I can personally attest that these shoes are great for running through airports at 10 pm at night. It was not the fault of these shoes that the gate attendant would not let us on the plane even though it was still at the gate. Don't blame the shoes. They did their job.
6. Share anything spontaneous you did this summer. Big or small.
A couple of weekends ago the soft-serve ice cream truck was at our pool. We invited our friends to go on a dessert double date and it was a Good call. Sometimes summer plans don't have to be extravagant. Sometimes an ice cream date with your Good couple friends is all you need.
7. Have you seen any summer movies this year?
We have not been to the movies this summer but we are talking about seeing Twisters. I am also interested in seeing the Reagan movie that is coming out the end of August. I am crossing my fingers that it is an accurate portrayal.
8. Favorite summer sweet treat
I am all about ice cream. My favorite is either black raspberry with chocolate sprinkles (called jimmies in New England) or vanilla soft-serve with chocolate sprinkles.
9. Summer slow down or ready for fall?
This summer I am just totally living in the moment. I am enjoying these last few weeks of summer with Hockey Guy home but also looking forward to some fun we have planned this fall.
10. Ready for back-to-school? (if you have kids in school)
I am literally working on the college back-to-school shopping every single day. Hockey Guy is in a campus apartment, so the shopping list is pretty long. I am also collecting quality used kitchen items from our local Facebook gifting site. Feel free to share all of your college back-to-school, dorm shopping tips in the comments below. I need them!
I cannot wait to read the posts from the writers who join us this month. Be sure to check them out and keep the Good summer vibes from Monthly Musings going.
We're in the midst of shopping like crazy for college too; my son doesn't have an apartment but he did score a room with a private bath (which we just found out on Monday) and have added all the bathroom stuff to our list this week. I'm looking at the pile of stuff wondering how on Earth we're going to fit it all in the car! LOL. It sounds like you have had a wonderful summer and one very similar to ours.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy this time. It is exciting isn't it? And the ensuite bathroom is key!
DeleteOh what an exciting yet bittersweet time- can't wait to read about your fun during your travels! Loving you sandal choices too!
ReplyDeleteWe are waiting for exact move in time and then we can start the road trip prep.
DeleteLove all of the shoes! Very fun and stylish looking as well. We have a first time college student and a veteran. Have a veteran is definitely helpful in terms of knowing what to bring to college. My husband has a spreadsheet of everything we need for our freshman based on what our other two needed. We have purchased a lot already and still have some more to do. Soak in the last few weeks at home with your son- I am sure you are :). Good luck with the move in, good bye´s, etc.
ReplyDeleteThanks Maria and I will take any advice you have! You can always message me. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteCute shoes and I love gauze dresses or really anything! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog and linking. Will be reading more.
ReplyDeleteWe're in the Tampa Bay area (on the gulf side) and finally made it to the beach last week. So nice to swim in warm waters as opposed to the cold waters of the Atlantic up north.
I'm commenting late this month but I'm thinking about you as you send Hockey Guy off to college. I hope his transition goes smoothly. And that black raspberry ice cream sounds sooooo good!
