Friday Favorites May 2024: Maycember, MeSsy Podcast, Good Mascara, Palm Royale and Surprisingly Cute Sandals

Hey there Besties, I am not going to lie to you, this has been a weird energy week. Nothing super bad, just weird energy. I am glad to be ushering in the weekend.  It's been a while since I linked up with Erika and Andrea and shared my Friday Favorites. Are you ready? Let's do this!

1. Maycember by the Holderness Family

This is actually from last year, but does this really go out of style? Is anyone else suffering from "Maycember" right now? All of craziness of December without the cookie making, Hallmark Christmas movies and winter wonderland.

I am in total Maycember right now, with finishing up high school to-dos and then trying to navigate all of the tasks for Hockey Guy's college. This is a Good season of life, but this video is spot on.

2. The MeSsy Podcast

If you or someone you love has chronic health problems, this new podcast from Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler should be in your podcast feed. It's raw, it's real but it truly describes what it is like to be diagnosed with a chronic illness. You could basically substitute a lot of what they about multiple sclerosis (MS) for lupus and probably a lot of other chronic illnesses. Christina talks in the first episode about how there is "no getting on the other side of this." That was something I can really relate to.

These women are doing Good work and they are forming a lovely friendship.

3. L'Oreal Panorama Mascara

I struggle with mascara a lot because I have really sensitive and dry eyes. I did give the new L'Oreal Panorama mascara a try recently and really like it. The packaging is very luxe but it is only around $12. I like the comb/brush and it isn't gloppy.

So far there is no eye itching and hopefully this is one I can use for a long time.

4. Palm Royale

Running Daddy and I just started watching this on Apple TV+. It is super fun with an all-star cast.

I love the costuming as it is pretty much all Lilly Pulitzer and vintage Palm Beach clothes. The cars are very fun too.

We are just getting into this one and it may be slow going because I told him I would not watch without him.

Anyone else excited to see Carol Burnett and Mindy Cohn back on your screens? They are total icons!

5. Easy Spirit Gatlin Shoes

How cute are these shoes? When did Easy Spirit get so cute? I have been wearing these almost all week because the weather has been so warm.

I have worn these sandals with skirts and dresses but I can totally wear them with pants too. The have Good padding on the bottom that make them really comfortable. These are not the Easy Spirit of the 1990's with the commercials of people playing basketball in pumps. Who remembers this gem?

I think these are going to be a staple for me all summer. I really like the raffia version too but I needed the black first.

I hope you have a Good weekend Besties. I am hoping to get some things done around the house while it rains and then I am also looking forward to my acupuncture appointment.

  2. I love The Holderness' parodies (even if 1/2 of them I don't really "get" because we didn't/don't have that sort of public school lifestyle-- weirdly even with Alec in public high school that hasn't happened even though I thought it would). This year I am feeling some of the craziness with graduation looming but thankfully none of the other stuff-- Alec's schedule is busy but luckily very little has to do with me other than trying to remember where he is! Those shoes are adorable!

  3. And now I’m singing the Easy Spirit jingle “looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker”. Too funny! Those sandals and the rafia ones are so cute. I’m excited for Palm Royale and it’s going to be a summer show for me. May really is so busy! Good luck with all the high school tasks.
