Friday Favorites: Thanksgiving Wines

Image result for Give thanks

I am sure you are all aware that Thanksgiving is next week. Who else is excited? Because of the array of spices in the traditional Thanksgiving meal, the wine pairing can be tricky. Today as I link up with ErikaNarci and Andrea for Friday Favorites, I am going to give you five Good ideas for Thanksgiving wine. I think it is safe to say, we are all thankful for wine.

1) Cava

What could be Better than greeting your guests at the door with a little bit of bubbles? Cavas are a sparkling wine from Spain that are typically at a really Good price point. One of the Best Cavas that I have had is Dibon Brut Reserve

Dibon Brut Reserve

Running Daddy and I discovered Dibon two years ago when we spent the weekend at the world famous Inn at Perry Cabin. At 3 p.m. every Friday, so right around check in, the Inn has a Cava tasting. This is the Cava they served and it was just perfect. There are touches of apple, clementine and grapefruit on the palate. If it is Good enough for Perry Cabin then it is Good enough for me. The Best part, it should run you less than $15 per bottle. Sparkling wine is also a Good option to serve with dessert.

2) Rose

Rose might be the perfect Thanksgiving wine. It's the Best compliment to the savories and sweets on the buffet. Now before you think I am out of my gourd, I am not talking about the headache inducing white Zinfandels that you may have consumed at dinner before your college formal. Dry roses are so Good and my rule of thumb is that you want something that has the Grenache grape, preferably from the Provence region of France. Here are two that I like Best.

Whispering Angel: This is the rose that made me like rose. If you have a rose skeptic at your Thanksgiving feast...have them try the Angel and my hunch is they will become a convert.

Bertrand Cote de Roses: At a slightly lower price point, the Bertrand Cote de Roses comes very close the Angel. Perfect for a crowd. It's more than just a pretty bottle.

3) Riesling

For white wine, a Riesling can handle everything from the cheese platter, to candied sweet potatoes to a maple glazed turkey. A Riesling usually has a hint of sweetness that goes Better with the traditional turkey dinner than other white choices.

Kung Fu Girl: I am hearing some very Good things about the Kung Fu Girl Riesling. The word "balanced" seems to be the theme for this wine. This is also an excellent price point if you have a large gathering for turkey and football.

4) Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the perfect red wine for Tom Turkey and his table of friends. Pinot Noir is light and velvety and helps round out the wide variety of dishes on your Thanksgiving table.

5) Beaujolais Nouveau

Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé! As yesterday was the third Thursday in the month of November, Beaujolais Nouveau is currently available. If you want to really embrace the season and add in a little fun, this limited run wine from France is a Good way to go. One should to drink this wine young and with its ease of drinking, this is a nice alternative for other red wines on Thanksgiving. Consider serving with a slight chill.
