Monthly Musings April 2026: Spring Flowers, Fashion and Food

Here we are at the end of April Besties. We have had some really glorious weather over the last few weeks, but it does not want to seem to stick around. While I can't control the weather, I do host Monthly Musings and for April, this link party is focusing on spring flowers, fashion and food. Let's talk spring.

1. Favorite spring flower?

Honestly, I love them all and get really excited when something new pops up in the garden. Truly, my favorite flowers are peonies and hydrangea. Those were mainly our wedding flowers and they make me the most happy.

2. Do you have flowers planted at your house?

Yes, we have daffodils which have already come and gone along with early spring friends hyacinths and tulips.

The iris are in full swing right now and they do really well in our yard.

The iris are so plentiful right now that on Sunday night I decided to cut some and bring their beauty inside the house.

Most of the iris at our house are a strong purple color and then I have some that are two toned purple. And yet, every year this one white iris springs up. Just one. I never planted it and it never multiples. Every spring, this white iris shines through and does its own thing.

I didn't plant these peonies, they were in the garden when we moved in. When Hockey Guy was little, we did dig them up and move them to a sunnier spot in the backyard.

It's almost lilly season too! They should be blooming next.

The gladiolus popped up randomly in the yard one year. Not sure how they got there because we had been in our house for a while before they moved in.

We also have a butterfly bush that is bright and fragrant.

In full disclosure, some of these photos are from this year and some are from years past so that you can see all of our flowers.

3. Any gardening tips?

I used to be a little intimidated by gardening and I have fully gotten over that. My first tip is one that my neighbor taught me and that is "put it in the ground and see what happens." As long as you attempt to give it the light and water it needs, if a plant or flower doesn't work for your yard, it can always be taken out or moved. They are not permanent fixtures.

The second tip is once you figure out what works in your yard, stick with it. Hostas and iris do really well at our house, hence we have a lot of hosta and iris.

The third tip is to share the wealth. When it is time to thin out your plants, see if your friends need any or put them on your neighborhood Buy Nothing site. You can also put them in a bucket or box at the end of the driveway with a "Free" sign.

4. What is your go-to spring outfit?

For work or for dress up, I love a floral dress. I find dresses so easy and I am trying to add them back into my wardrobe.

For casual, I am all about white jeans with a colorful top.

5. What spring trends are you loving right now.

I am loving the wider leg jeans. I am not a fan of the barrel leg...sorry!

6. Best wardrobing tip for when the weather can't make up its mind?

My Best tip is layers. In the spring and the fall I love a quality cardigan. I have this cardigan in both the light pink and light grey. I literally wear them with everything from over a black sheath dress to Friday jeans. I size up in these and take a medium.

At just under $40, you could even keep one in your office if you needed to. If you haven't tried Quince yet, you can use this code: http://rwrd.io/yv99mqx?c and save $20 on your first order.

7. What beverages do you love in spring?

For adult beverages I love an aperol spritz and I love these ready made ones that Trader Joe's carries. I am not sure if they are an exclusive product but I have only seen them there.

I also brought these on vacation last year. They are super portable and a Good option when you don't want to open an entire bottle of prosecco by yourself!

I also like a little rose' wine when the weather gets nice as well.

I am also leaning hard into mocktails. Recess Zero Proof has some really fun canned mocktails that are also low calorie. I have tried both the Paloma and the Margarita.

The margarita was perfect when we had taco bowls last week. Definitely a Good margarita flavor with zero alcohol.I think other stores carry these but I also found them at Trader Joe's.

I would love suggestions on a signature fun mocktail if you have any. Something beyond sparkling water with lemon that I could order at an event when I want something fun without alcohol. Please leave me some ideas in the comments.

8. Spring can be super busy, share your easiest spring meals

First, I suggest that everyone keep a bag of frozen meatballs handy. Meatball subs are an easy and yummy option that everyone loves on a busy night.

Running Daddy and I also love meatballs, Banza pasta and Rao's or Trader Joe's Cargo Sugo sauce. It is totally elevated but easy pasta and meatballs.

We also do taco bowls at least every ten days. The fun of taco bowls is that you can cook the taco meat and then put all the fun stuff out on the counter and people can just build their own taco bowl.

That's a wrap for me on April Montly Musings. I am excited to see jump over to the other sites of the writers who jon for Monthly Musings. If you are joining Monthly Musings as a write, please link back to me in your post and then use the link at the bottom of this page to join the link party.
