Hey there Besties, we are slowly but surely making our way through January. This month feels long doesn't it? Now that we are nearing the end of January, I am linking up with Shay and Shaeffer for What's Up Wednesday. Even though I know January has been challenging for a lot of people, but let's finish this month strong.
What We're Eating This Week
Monday-Running Daddy has a class on Monday night so we both do our own thing. I had a turkey burger, a few sweet potato fries and cucumbers.
Tuesday-Taco bowls with salad.
Wednesday-Sheet pan chicken parmesan with salad
Thursday-Not sure yet, I need to figure that out.
Friday-We are going out on Friday. More to come on that.
What I'm Reminiscing AboutHonestly, at this point I am just living in the here and now. I am not really looking back on anything.
What I'm Loving
Have you seen these roller clips from Kitsch?
I have mentioned on this site that I don't have great hair naturally and a lot of cowlicks especially in the crown of my head. I put these in when I finish blow-drying and let them hang out while I do my make-up. They give enough lift in the back of my hair to help tame those cowlicks.
I also love having real weekends now. Everyone keeps asking how it is to be an empty nester. Frankly, things are not all that empty for us in the Good Better Best household. We have time to breathe on the weekends which is actually really nice.
I also love this Laura Geller Jelly Balm duo. These are sheer but buildable color and the two colors are perfect for winter. These lip colors are not drying and have some Good staying power.
What We've Been Up To
Hockey Guy was on Christmas break until mid-January and it was so Good to have him home. Several of us have mentioned that this drop-off felt unexpectedly hard. Everyone expects the August college drop-off to be hard but the kids going back after Christmas was sneaky hard.
Don't get me wrong, he is really happy at school and doing well playing hockey. That all makes me happy but I miss the vibe of him in our house.
We have also had a bit of snow around here and it has been very cold for Virginia. I didn't really mind it because it is January and it is supposed to be cold.
What I'm Dreading
The only thing that I am dreading is that is going to be around 65 degrees later this week and maybe next week too. I would love this in March, but it's January and I dread all of the potential sickness that can come from these wacky temperature swings.
What I'm Working On
The main thing that I am working on is finishing up Dry January. This is my first time participating in Dry January and while January has been a long month, I have totally made it so far! I frankly don't even drink that much, I can open a bottle of wine on Thursday night and then not finish it until Saturday or Sunday night, and I usually have some help from Running Daddy.
I did break down and try some alcohol-removed wine the last few weekends. What I have found is that I really do enjoy a nice glass of wine with a Good meal on the weekends. The Geisen chardonnay was close to ".real" wine.
My sleep is Better right now and that is definitely something to think about in the long run. Wine can disrupt my sleep.
We have also entered a new election cycle, so I am working on all of the things that come with that at work.
What I'm Excited About
I am excited to see Hockey Guy play hockey this weekend. More on that later.
What I'm Watching/Reading
I am working my way through a few books slowly but surely. I need to figure out a way to find more time to read.
I seem to have time to watch my stories though! Here is what I watched in January:
Nobody Wants This-so so Good.
Conclave-this was not what we thought it was going to be. Anyone else?
Real Housewives-Oof, this stuff is dark but Good. I am sitting back and watching Kyle get her due on RHOBH that I have been waiting for since season 1. The reading of the texts on Salt Lake was rough. I know that Lisa was all up in arms about what Whitney said, but wow wow wow, Bronwyn's was rough. Yet, I still really like Angie.
Southern Charm-We are totally Craig stans in our house. I am starting to wonder if this show has run it's course.
The Bachelor-I watched the premier of The Bachelor the other night. So much body glitter and so much crazy in this group of ladies. Grant actually had body glitter on his tux the first night. Will I still watch? Yes, yes I will.
What I'm Listening To
I am listening to every podcast about the Real Housewives right now and any podcast that has Mel Robbins on it talking about the "Let Them" theory. I am pretty obsessed with Mel's new book concept. Anyone else?
What I'm Wearing
It's been really cold here so I am working hard to mix fashion with warmth. Here are a few newer items in my wardrobe that fit the bill.
These wedge boots are super comfortable and can be worn to work or with fun wide-leg jeans. I needed new boots in more of a brown tone and these are super fun with the wedge heel. I took my regular 8.5 size.
I love this ribbed boyfriend sweater and chose it in grey. It's great with black pants or jeans. Top this off with a fun scarf or add a crisp white button-down underneath to finish the look. This is an oversized look but I still went with my regular size small.
This sherpa mock neck is sold out on J Crew Factory but I love it and wear it every weekend. I style it with the brown boots above and wide-leg jeans. If you see one on sale in store, buy it, you will not be disappointed.
What I'm Doing This Weekend
This weekend we are going to see Hockey Guy play a two-game series with his college team. We get to see him live, no live streams, no hoping the links work, live and on the ice. I cannot wait!
What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month
This is going to sound horrible, but I am looking forward to a nice glass of wine in February now that dry January will be over. I miss a nice glass of wine with a great meal.
I also look forward to adding a few Valentine's decorations around the house. I don't go overboard with Valentine's Day decor, but the house does look a little bare.
What Else is New
Tomorrow kicks off Monthly Musings 2025. Holly and I would love to have you join us for all of the themed fun this year.
In January we are focusing on one of my favorite subjects, self-care. We will share all of our favorite ways to practice self-care this winter.

Can't wait to read about Hockey Guy playing- how exciting!! I just started reading "Let Them" and I am loving it!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Nobody Wants This too. I thought it was so cute and sweet. I didn't find it that hard to drop Alec back off at college after winter break but he did casually mention that he's hoping to pick up a campus job that will allow him to live there through the summer and that hit hard. I mean, I'm glad he loves it so much but man I thought I had a few more summer vacations with him! I hope you have a fabulous time watching Hockey Guy this weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI really love that dark lip color!
