Wow, Besties here we are at the end of October. We are hopefully in the final act of this crazy year called 2020. It's the last Wednesday of the month so I am linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday to talk all things October. Are you ready for all the fall feels? I am!
1) What We Are Eating This Week
Ok, I am struggling in the dinner department right now. I typically pride myself in having dinner under control but I am super busy with work so I am not so Good in the dinner realm. Once the election is over I need a Costco run to get things under control. Here is what we are attempting to eat this week:
Monday-Smithfield bacon pork tenderloin, steamed broccoli, and brown rice.
Tuesday-Hockey night so probably a grilled cheese with fruit for Hockey Guy and whatever for Running Daddy and me.
Wednesday-I am making baked chicken tacos for a friend so I will probably just do a super sized batch and make some for us too.
Thursday-Another hockey night so I may just do burgers and dogs. Told ya I was struggling!
Friday-Take out. Thank heavens.
What I am Reminiscing About
I post this photo every October, I know, but it makes me happy. Oh how I would love to be at the happiest place on earth right now. The cast member asked for his autograph.
Since it is election season, I am also reminiscing about all of my years in the thick of the political process. When elections were exciting and it was my favorite days. This time it just feels like dread. I have had so many amazing opportunities and experiences being part of the political process. It is just not like that any more. You can learn a little more about my work life and how things used to be here. 3) What I am Loving
Haribo S'Witches Brew
I bought these as a little treat for Hockey Guy and who knew they would be so fun. They are Halloween shaped gummies that you don't know if they will be sweet or sour. As Hockey Guy says "there's a surprise in every bite!"
What We've Been Up To
Thankfully, we have had a lot of hockey. The only downside is that only one parent can be at the games. Running Daddy created a private Facebook group for Dancing Granny and Grandpa and me and then will video and post Hockey Guy's shifts. It is a really Good way to watch his games. Another bonus, being able to rewatch plays, including legal hits where he will totally truck another player.
All three of us have been up to a whole lot of work. We are all looking forward to some downtime soon.
This past weekend was homecoming at school, and while it is very different than in the past, they did a really Good job trying to make it fun. They had an old fashioned car parade and Nurse K, Mrs. L and I worked the cotton candy stand. If you need socially distant cotton candy made...we are your gals.
Social media in the days following the election. Seriously.
I am working on a lot of work. Hopefully at the end of next week I can take a deep breath again. In the meantime, I am also working on self care during this busy season. A little time hanging out on our bed on a rainy Sunday, laughing with Hockey Guy, Running Daddy and Stormy. There is nothing like this.
What I'm Excited About
I am super excited about taking a day off next Friday. I don't even know what I am going to do, but a little downtime is really keeping me going. I think Running Daddy is going to take time off too and I think Hockey Guy may not have school. We will see where the day takes us.
I am also really excited about Halloween. I am going to do treat bags with candy this year and just put them on a table for kids to take. Hoping that is a safe option.
Is it too early to say I am excited about Christmas? I am really excited about Christmas this year.
What I'm Watching/Reading
I am still working my way through the second installment of the Andy Cohen diaries. I like that I can read a few fun pages before I fall asleep.
We all want to watch the First Ladies series on CNN. We need to get caught up on those episodes on demand.
It is finally time for Countdown to Christmas on Hallmark Channel! We kicked it off strong on Friday afternoon with my favorite of all time The Mistletoe Promise. I cried in all the same spots. Same thing on Sunday for A Christmas Love Story. File all of this under self care. I have it on now while I work on this post. Christmas is not cancelled and I am so ready for it.
Of course, we are also watching The Bachelorette. Let me just say this, there are a lot of amazing 39 year old women that I look at and don't know why they have not found their perfect guy...Clare is not one of those women. Holy smokes this gal is a lot!
It's pretty much the Clare and Dale show. Yes, Dale is handsome...and he is also boring. Normally the guys are the real stars of the show...but this time is all about Clare's crazy. For the record, I am here for it.
What I am Listening to
Shay mentioned the French Cooking music on Pandora and it has been a Good lift while I am working. It's a nice mix of music and much less Pepe le Pew than I thought it would be. If you know what I mean.
Since I am still working from home 95% of the time, I needed another pair of pants for my casual work from home days. I am loving these cute camo capris from Kohl's. The are the perfect weight and give you comfort while still looking cute. I also think they are pretty slimming. They also come in a ton of other colors and I just may pick up another pair.
Speaking of work from home options, I am also loving my new Rothy's sneakers. I needed a new pair of slip ons and these are perfect with jeans or the cargos above.
I went with the navy option because they don't have them in grey. If you have not tried Rothy's I can tell you they live up to the hype. They are the only flats I wear and I am loving these new sneakers. If you want try Rothy's and save $20 off your first pair use

What I'm Doing This Weekend
Saturday, my ladies and I are doing the virtual 5K for our former school that Running Daddy and Nurse K helped to found. Running Daddy is going to chalk the course and we are going to meet with masks and Halloween accessories.
I am ready for some safe Halloween fun on Saturday night and then hopefully a little downtime on Sunday.
What I am Looking Forward to Next Month
I am truly looking forward to election season being over, both for my workload and for our country. For work, I love a new election cycle, a clean slate, new relationships to make, and a new start.
I am also looking forward to some downtime and the promise of Thanksgiving and Christmas, whatever that looks like in 2020.

ReplyDeleteI was just thinking that we need to do a Bj's run (our version of Costco since that's all we've got around here) and stock up the freezer with some meat and veggies again. I don't think it's ever too early to say you're excited for Christmas.
