It's last Wednesday of the month and so much has been going on in May. So it's time for What's Up Wednesday with Mel, Shaeffer, and Shay. Pour a coffee, sparkling water or wine and let's get to it.
What We're Eating This Week
Hockey Guy is still in school and we are sprinting to the finish line. He has several tests and a book report this week, so this dinner schedule could go out the window at any moment.
Sunday: Grilled tropical tequila chicken, grilled peppers and jasmine rice
Monday: Turkey burgers, grass fed beef burgers and hot dogs with tomato mozzarella salad
Tuesday: Turkey bolognese with salad
Wednesday: Sausage and polenta with roasted zucchini
Thursday: Roasted salmon, baby red potatoes and green beans
Friday: Pizza at the pool if it doesn't rain
Friday: Pizza at the pool if it doesn't rain
What I am Reminiscing About
With the end of the school year and the start of summer coming, I am thinking about how far Hockey Guy has come in school since he started in kindergarten so many years ago.
I am also reminiscing about a mom friend at school who passed away this month. I just keep thinking about her, her smile and all of the fun projects she helped with that we will not be working on in the future and bunco night. She was always a person in the room I loved talking to.
What I am Loving
Almay Thickening Mascara

I have a lot of trouble with mascara and with make up in general due to sensitive skin. Most mascaras make my eyes itch at a minimum and send me to the eye doctor for a prescription at the most extreme level. Pretty much I only use Clinique or Almay mascara. Recently I purchased the Almay Thickening Mascara and love it. When I was getting my hair done a few weeks ago my hairdresser who has know me for over a decade commented how long my lashes were. It's totally this mascara. It not only thickens but it also lengthens and lasts all day. It might be the Best mascara I have ever used.
What We Have Been Up To
Like a lot of us, we have been up to a lot.We are in the thick of finishing up school but not in the parties yet, we are in the tests, projects, getting all assignments phase in.
I went to corporate headquarters in Omaha for my new job last week and did all of my training. Omaha is totally different than D.C., Boston where I grew up and Minneapolis which is my last corporate HQ town. People call you Dear and Hun and hold open doors. It's a nice city with Good restaurants and the vibe at my new corporation is sooo Good.
We are in the last of our lacrosse games with the playoffs starting this coming weekend. Lacrosse tailgate was in full swing and I am starting to get really Good at what we can easily bring that will be a crowd pleaser. Firehouse subs box for the win.
We also had some fun with the royal wedding. I gave my review in this post here and we really needed this celebration of fun and love after a tough day the day before. The highlight of the royal festivities was my friend Mrs. S' royal wedding party. We all wore our fascinators but I donned my tiara and celebrated love and all things Union Jack that morning. Lady Tammy missed no details as you can see. We had the Best time.
Never miss an opportunity to wear your tiara
Yes, that's Harry and Meghan on the cupcakes!
Harry and Meghan earrings were the grand prize for the hat contest--I didn't win
What I Am Dreading
I totally dread the stress and anxiety of these next few weeks as I get our summer schedule ready. I am so blessed that I have a new job that gives me a lot of flexibility but there are a few weeks I need to figure out. I know it will all work out but I am not Good at asking for help.
What I Am Working On
Well besides our summer schedule, since I have a new job, I am working on a lot. Like any new job, I have days where I think I have it all figured out and days that are total head scatchers. I have to keep reminding myself that I was hired for a reason, that I do know what I am doing and to ask for help where and when I need it.
Thanks to many supportive friends and readers of this blog, I also got the opportunity to spread a little Mother's Day Joy to the mom's spending Mother's Day at our two local Ronald McDonald houses. With the help of my friend Susanne's Keep Collective business, we were able to gift all 33 moms at the Ronald McDonald house a Keep Collective bracelet.
I also got our garden in this weekend and it felt so Good to get things planted. Due to our renovation last summer, I didn't want to put a garden in because I wasn't sure how that could impact our garden, and I just couldn't look after one more thing.
This year I was a little ambitious and planted tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, cucumber, peppers, white eggplant, rosemary, and basil. I also got a planter that has red and green leaf lettuce and Swiss chard. Not sure what will do well this year, but I always put things in the ground and then see what happens. I once again topped things off with the Coast of Maine Lobster Compound which I truly believe is one of the Best kept secrets for home gardening. Your can read more about this here.
What I am Excited About
I booked our summer vacation this month and I am excited to explore a new location this year. We decided to try Hilton Head instead of heading to Bethany Beach in Delaware. It's a little more of a drive but it will be Good to try some place new. Feel free to leave any Good Hilton Head tips or must dos in the comments below.
What I'm Watching/Reading
Reading
Since I had two pretty long flights last week, I got to take a really Good dip into the two books Running Daddy got me for my birthday last month. The Erika Jayne book is a Good light read but The Bachelor Nation is Better. I am only about 1/3 of the way into the Bachelor book but it really gives a Good insight into all things Bachelor. I have a much Better understanding of some of the spin after reading this book.
Watching
Real Housewives of New York continues to dominate our TV in May.
Southern Charm is a close second. I am really rooting for sober Katherine this season but why oh why get Naomi get a nose job? I think she lost her mind when they put her under.
And The Bachelorette started this week too. I need to get caught up via DVR and will hopefully have some fun recaps for you in the next few weeks. I have not even started watching this season but I can already tell you I am tired of this phrase..."let's do the damn thing." (insert eye roll)
What I am Listening To
All my same pod casts. A big clap up to Bitch Sesh once again for their commentary on the royal wedding. Dang Danielle and her guests last week had a lot to say about the wedding especially Meghan's dad. As usual, spot on ladies.
What I am Wearing
I have needed to get sized properly on some pants as the magic of Barre 3 had made my body shape change in a Good way.
For casual pants, to say that I love these Loft pants from Lou & Grey would be a total understatement. The cotton is so soft you feel like you are wearing sweats but you look more dressed up than that. I seriously have them in three colors including the light grey shown below. I would say these run true to size as I am a 6 and took a medium.

My dress pants were getting baggy in the butt, so I stopped into Loft one night to have them help me with fit. Turns out that the Marisa is a Better cut for me at this point. I also grabbed these in several colors.

Both of these pant styles would look great with either this white sweater tee that I picked up or this refined scoop neck that I added in too. I think these both run large so I chose the xsmall.

What I'm Doing This Weekend
Lacrosse play offs start this weekend so hopefully I will get to see Hockey Guy play a lot of lacrosse.
We are also going to a party on Saturday night and they will have the Stanley Cup playoffs going on the outdoor big screen. ALLCAPS!
What I Am Looking Forward to Next Month
I am looking forward to school getting out in June. Hockey Guy has had a Good year with a lot of support, but we have had to work with him a lot this year. Middle school is hard. I am looking forward to just coming home and having all of us chill.
I am also looking forward to my niece getting back from overseas and Friday nights at the pool.
What Else is New
If I didn't cover it in this very long post, it must not have been that Good.
Bonus Question-Favorite Summer Salad
Summer, Fall, Winter or Spring the Best salad is tomato/mozzarella with a Good olive oil.
